timing your humidifier question
    #9527163 - 01/01/09 11:57 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I'm running the vicks v400 inside my greenhouse and cut about 40 little slits everywhere and i'm getting condensation which just drops down into the perlite at the bottom.  But, when I put my casings in their wont it drip and flood my casing? I assume my problem is my humidifier and was going to buy a timer and run it less.  Is this the right assumption and the correct way to fix this or is this not a problem at all(the condensation)?

Condesnation is ok condesation happens because of the temp difference inside compared to outside the greenhouse.. The coolmist should be able to run 24/7

I doubt it is pouring rain in your set up.

A timer is recommended. You want a fluctuating moisture level, its one of the biggest pinning triggers; I think:rolleyes:.

Biggest pinning triggers are FAE, Light, High Humidity and Colonization..

Some evaporation plays a part. Thats why when you have a cased substrate, you dont mist it all the time. You mist the casing layer till its glistening, then leave it. Once it starts to dry up again you re mist it.

You should get an analogue hygrometer to keep a check on your humidity. Try and get it to stay around 95%+. Even at 99% you will still get evaporation happening. If you pump to much moisture in all that will happen is the excess moisture will pool on everything, which isnt a good thing.

You must put the humidifier on a timer.  If you reach saturation humidity in the greenhouse and continue to pump mist into it, the mist must settle, since it can't be absorbed.
