Not true. Make a grain jars and rinse the colonized grains with cranberry juice. You will get a trip. No fruiting stage, no invitro, they don't even have to be colonized all the way.
Edit: Don't eat verm. So I wouldn't try it with a PF cake. Just grains, wbs and such.

This thread is still going?
I figured most threads started by xtofury would've been closed by now.

What your not considering is the mycelium will be growing old and even if you add more food it's still gonna know that its ran its course.

I want to say a few things. You will not trip of of a partially colonized jar of anything, or a fully colonized jar. If you let the jar sit until it begins to knot and primordia form then you are ok, but by that point you might as well wait until the fruiting is over. If you want to trip from a cake, take a spent cake that has fruited and mix with any juice and a vitamin C tab. Smash it all up together, or blend it and let sit. Take a paper towel, lay that in a strainer and dump the mixture into it. Every last bit of solid is removed, the juice comes out clear. Not only that, it doesn't taste bad. If you where to open a rye jar and eat a piece of mycelium, you will find it just has kinda of a nutty flavor, not unpleasant at all. My roommate and I have tried this at every stage of growth, more than once. The only thing we get from the jars that haven't begun fruiting is the giggles. I have no clue why this is. We have eaten a Quart each of fully colonized rye, ground up cakes, eaten a cake right before it fruits and eaten a cake right after it fruits. The last two where no different than eating Shrooms. But as said above, what is the point of this? Each time we did this I had already had mushies lying around, I was just tired of hearing people argue and wanted to see for myself. There is no point in eating a cake unless it is spent, or fruiting.
Also if one was inclined to do so, you can take a spent substrate that has already fruited and crumble into a new sub. Opposite to what I have read, the mycelium will go back to colonizing. I have done it several times now with respectable results. However, out of the three times I have done it, contams always sat in after the first flush. So there is no point in doing this if you have good spawn to use.

The whole premise of this "tek" is ridiculous.
spent /spɛnt/ 1. pt. and pp. of spend. 2. used up; consumed. 3. tired; worn-out; exhausted.
Hmm...if we look at the definition of spent, it says it is "used up, consumed, tired, worn out, or exhausted". Sounds like these SPENT cakes are just that, SPENT.
Throw them out, or dump them in the compost. End of story.

Yea, but a spent plastic bottle isn't completely spent if you recycle it. I don't think there's anything really horrible about tripping from a cake, a trip is a trip.

Your point is moot.
The plastic bottle isn't spent, the liquid that was inside of it was spent.

Still though, a spent cake is spent because it's depleted of nutrients. If you introduce it to new nutrients, then there is a possibility that it can become unspent. I'm not saying it would actually work, since as arp said, the possibility of contamination is likely pretty high, but it is possible.

It's possible, perhaps, but in no way practical.
Sub is super cheap, just make new ones.
Have I gone crazy and the price of WBS skyrocketed to a grand a pound or something?

What's the big deal. If someone feels the need to eat a brf/verm cake that has already fruited, why do you care? It works, I can promise you that.
