Here is one of two mushrooms found from a friend.  He found them at work, at a lawn and turf research farm.  They were found in grass

Here is me with my buddy's mushroom its a big phucker!!

Here is a closeup on the cap

Her is a pic of the gills

The spoer print was very light but to me it looked white.
Lepiota procera met the best description in an ID book i looked at but i would like a second opinion.  If it is good I will be BBQing it tonight ..................peace

Get a big ziplock bag, insert mushroom, pour in some unsweetened grapefruit juice (preferably white not pink), add a little salt, and a tiny drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Close ziplock. Invert numerous times, mixing to coat the mushroom. Let marinate for 30-45 minutes. Saut? or grill, basting often with marinade. Allow to rest a couple minutes before slicing into it. Serve over cooked small grain such as quinoa, millet, or possibly couscous. Mmmm...

Man, I get several crops of Lapoitas here, all Proceras.

Try to catch them before they get too dry but even the dry ones are tasty.

Deep fried is an excellent way to cook them. Egg with a dash of milk-equal parts bread crumbs and flour with your favorite seasonings added- Dip in egg-coat with breading mixture and deep fry till browned the way you like em! Cut the caps in quarters or 6ths if they are really big. Make a dipping sauce with sour cream, mayo, paprika, chilli powder and hot sauce or look up "OutBack Steakhouse dippin sauce" for their onion rings on-line. I usually batter and fry some onion rings and broccoli to go along as well.

Also, you can cook those in any recipe that calls for shrooms. We have added them to Beef Stroganoff and chicken marsala as well.

Happy eating!

Peace

I have found that the lepiota rachodes always grow back in the exact same spots throughout the season and again the following year. And I mean exact!. There was this roof of a hay storage building that the water dripped off of on a regular basis and they always popped up even out of season because of the constant moisture from the dew rolling off the roof and dripping on the ground. There was a barn next door that some did really well in to; same deal with the roof. Oddly the other lepiota (for get the name like narc... something) grew in the same area; but we never ate them because of their close lookalike. But the rachodes tasted awsome whenever we had them. They do have quit a tenacious micilum base. Almost like a root nodgule or something:)

when they get old they get darker.
whenever i find rachodes i find a family.
young are around to help the id.
young rachodes is firm and white stalked with a reddish brown cap, the scaling starts as the cap opens.
rachodes and procera are both good, as is americana.
i dont eat no stinking meat
mushrroms are like meat, though.
i made soup with rachodes last time, and the buttery milky goodness was delish.
hey gsa, are you the friend of joshua thats into edibles?
we should go to the coast, i know some good edible spots.
peace

Yo viscid, yes I am the friend of Joshua that is totally down with the edibles. That would be cool to go hunting. I know some pretty amazing places where so many different varieties of mushooms grow. I just need to figure out the way to get the directions again. I'll just have to ask my father. Well pm me if you are interested...........peace
