Seattle is the place to be...but where?
    #952829 - 10/11/02 03:02 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

Since this is my first post, I'll say something about myself...

I have a huge interest in mushrooms of all kinds, but have been growing cubensis for about a year. I own lots of books and I read pretty much everything I can find online. Now I want to go hunting...

I know theres lots of people here who live in or around seattle and have places they know for sure have cyanescens coming out of ground this time of year...I want to be one of those people! My question is pretty much how do you pick a spot to look in..? I don't want to go wander aimlessly through peoples yards, that aint my style   I need some direction. You dont have to give up your favorite places (like anyone would anyway) I just need some ideas to get started before its too late

Woodchips on in public places are good for Cyans sometimes.

Hi,

GumbyDude is correct.  I often look for places to hunt by looking at the mulch they use.  Being that not everyone knows what hardwood mulch looks like and a picture is worth a thousand words, here's a pic of cyans from last fall that shows the mulch they're growing in well.

Anywhere you see that mulch is a good place to take a look.  Stay away from cedar mulch, which is reddish brown in color.  And they are indeed up already, I found quite a nice fruiting this morning, get out there!!

Good luck,

DH

Well, I've been out hunting a few times now. Found lots and lots of really cool and interesting mushrooms, I wish I had some pics

but none of the "right" kind. I'm still looking, and Im having a blast...I haven't had this much fun in a long time.
