my girlfriend was born without 5/10 of her fingers. she makes me anxious in a "shes really beautiful and i love her" kind of way.
irrational fear of physically (or mentally) imperfect people is born in ignorance in my opinion.
do we judge people by their looks, or by their actions?

I do not think people are ignorant or unsympathetic for feeling anxious. In rebuttal for humanity, people generally fear what they do not understand. I use "fear" loosely.

If people have genetic mutations that greatly impact their ability to take care of themselves, it is unsustainable to try and keep them alive out of sympathy and pity.

I feel bad and sometimes wish it was me instead of them. They don't make me feel anxious or nervous though. There still people like everyone else.
I do feel as though some people should just be put to "sleep" because I know if I was them I would not want to live.

I think its an instinctual reaction to be repulsed by really creepy looking deformities. Someone missing some fingers isn't something that causes that gut reaction, but someone with a flipper-hand is pretty scary.

Exactly.
My technology/shop teacher in middle school had a few missing fingers and it was no big deal, shit happens, ya know?
But on lightrail a few months ago, this lady came aboard and was holding on to her purse with this knubby, gnarled monstrosity and I got really uncomfortable but couldn't look away. It was awkward as fuck!

they provide jobs for some people... that's about all i can say.
someone severely deformed is basically a donkey. they're not gonna mess up the race any, what with girls being so picky with REGULAR people.
