To pasteurize at someone else's house or not to
    #951536 - 10/11/02 01:09 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

My friend rents out the downstairs of a house and others live upstairs.
How bad does it smell when you pasteurize horse poo? If you were in my position and your only place to pasteurize was at a friend's place of rent, would you do so?

"GULF COAST TEXAS SYRINGE! EVERYTHING IS BIG IN TEXAS! Dear Keeper, I send you these pictures and spores so you may pass on this wonderful strain to the world! My cat accidentally ate a spore print and washed it down with 'Keepers Brew' when I wasn't looking. He took a 'DUMP' in your Kit A and before I new what had happened I found these monsters! WHAT THE HELL IS IN THAT BREW!?!? $35.00 + S/H " - SporeTradingPost's 'Keeper': douchebag of the century! I find it gets quite sweet smell.
But not a bad smell.
It certainly doesn`t smell like dog shit for example.

If it is dry dung, heat it dry as AngryShroom suggests. The smell is not all that bad & if you use a fan to vent any smell, no one should even notice. If it is wet, or you wet pasturize it. Your in for some stink. Using a microwave on wet dung creates one hell of a lingering stink.

The smell shouldn't be a concern. It smells sorta like straw or something. Just don't get caught by some unwanted visitor. It may have a bad effect on your social life. However, if you live in the US or somewhere where growing mushrooms is illegal, I would make sure you trust this friends. I usually keep my operations as top secret as the CIA does. Even if people don't call the pigs on me they might tell their friends who tell their friends etc. and if I don't go to jail for it people will ride by and be like look at that druggie. I'd keep it as top secret as possible until they are actually grown. Just my 2 cents....

There isn't much of a smell to it at all.

And there is nothing remotely illegal or suspicious about compost, gardeners use it all the time.
