Substrate Question
#9514210 - 12/29/08 07:48 PM (15 years, 2 months ago) |
|
|
I heard that the very best mushrooms are grown on dung instead of PF cakes but i do not have anywhere near that I can get some cow or horse poop from so i am wondering if anyone has ever tried to use their own poop or their dogs poop for substrate with any luck. If so, what was the consistancy of the poop and what kind of food would be best to eat before preparing the substrate, I was thinking either chinese food, mexican food or McDonalds.

I'm not sure how I would feel about eating shrooms grown from my own shit anyways...hahaha!
I'm testing out 3 Parts Coir, 1 Part Corn Cob bedding, and 1 cup spent coffee grounds as a bulk substrate, spawned by popcorn.

Check local nurseries, hardware stores, big box retailers with a gardening section, and even call around to cattle/horse farms (if there are any around there). You'd be surprised how easy manure is to come by.
If you can't get manure, go with coir. With a few additives it will work great.
Good luck!

Coir is coconut husk fibers used for reptile bedding.
It's sold in bags of loose fibers and compressed bricks.
Check out any animal shop that deals with reptiles.

I think you're confused: this is the thread you started about growing mushrooms out of your own shit, not the thread you started trying to prove that cubensis grow outdoors in oregon.
In that thread, there were links posted by a number of people directing you to information about where specific mushrooms will grow, as well as the environment necessary for cubensis to grow, which is not provided in oregon. That wasn't garbage, it was exactly what you were looking for: information relevant to your topic. You arent going to prove the established study of mycology wrong by saying "nuh-uh! i did find them here! i swear they were cubensis!"

You asked if you could grow mushrooms out of human or canine feces. We told you 'no'.
It could have been left at that, but somehow you just keep popping out all these gems for us to make fun of you for.
