The same thing happened to my best friend from high school.  He was gay the entire time, but only came out when he went to college and then his personality seemed to change. He became flamboyant.

I think it was because that's the way he always felt inside, but was scared to express because he lived in Texas where gays are sometimes hunted down and killed.

I got used to it.  I like a little drama and flamboyance myself.  It's fun!

Its a culture. Some gay people when they come out choose to join this culture. Seems strange to some people because they are from a different culture with different values.

It's a superficial way to seek validation. Sadly, they seem to think that by being accepted by shoving it in people's faces is the only way.

Others do it just for the fun of it all. Could be still the above reason, though.

That could be true to some extent. But also keep in mind that if you were a straight person in a culture of predominantly gay people, you would be the one shoving it in peoples faces. You would stand out and seem flamboyant because you are part of a minority.

Well yeah. That's how it is.

I'm not saying it's bad, but it definitely isn't a step in being gay. It's more like saying fuck y'all, I'm gay.

its all about validation, who you prefer to have sex with should not be noticeable physical feature.

It could be said that if you act masculine and wear masculine clothes that you are acting straight and that your sexuality has become a noticeable physical feature.

Sexual projection isn't exclusive to gays, you're right.

But that doesn't mean that it's necessarily fulfilling to build your persona on your sexual orientation.

Says people in really expensive suits!

Anyone may find satisfaction in being really gay, or really butch, or really straight for awhile but it will likely fade like any other "costume". True happiness comes from within, not from being accepted for how you present yourself.

Its not all about sexual orientation. Its an accepted part of the culture they live in. We all fit into a culture.

Yeah, but it's fake.

Would you rather walk into a room and get a knowing nod because you are wearing your tight Diesel jeans and a rainbow scarf, or just be accepted for who you are?

Indeed!  Which is why my hypothesis (after watching my friend transform) is that 'acting gay' is just fun for them.  And birds of a feather DO flock together...there is a social feedback loop they share with one another.  It must be even more fun to act gay in unison.  I had a gay guy tell me once, "The world is a stage!"

It inspired me at the time.  I may even start acting more gay, as an experiment.

Ohhhh honey!  :chillin:

Yeah, I'm sure it can be fun for some. But I worry about the others who see it as a requirement.
