Ganoderma lucidum, sometimes especially on the ground in grass they have very little "varnish" on them. Used medicinely for tea, the antlerred form being preferred. Don't know if it really has any medicinal value, but the tea tastes good and mushroomy. It also makes a nice mushroom liquer when added to rum. Varnish conks always grow on wood, it was probably attatched to a buried stump or root.
