No one likes my antique military blade??
Thought I'd at least get a comment.

That's all I require.
I LOVE it. Inherited from my grandfather, he was a squadron leader in WWII, his squadron presented it to him, he had been offered several promotions that would have meant he could stop flying bombing missions and move to training recruits instead. He refused several times as he did not want to abandon his brothers. He was a navigator, great man. RIP.

Yes it definitely adds some gravitas to it. I want to try and find out who it was issued to originally, it has a serial number and was a military commission so there must be a log/record of who it was made for.
I think my grandfather received it after the war (circa 1946) as a thank you from his boys. But it must have been somewhere for 30ish years before that, I have a vague recollection of him telling me it was originally from South Africa, though made in England, presumably some officer had cut down a few thousand "savages" with a Gatling gun and was awarded an honour, I dread to think actually.
But it will be interesting to find out nonetheless.

Just got back from a weekend festival. The morning of the second day I was walking along the road at the campgrounds to find some staff and I found this on the side of the road:

That's not a picture of the actual blade. The one I found is the same color with the same sheath, but it looks like it has been run over by a car. The sheath is messed up, but the knife seems in perfect condition despite some dirt.

Cold sterl kukiri is nice, but WAY overpriced.
IMO i would buy a genuine Nepalise one off ebay, the ones i saw there looked like a great value.

Ill have too look into that. Yes cold steel is way over priced. The kukiri I have of there's is 1055 high carbon and it was 20$. I have beat the he'll out of it and it still throws and cuts like a beast.

I almost got a folding CRTK recently. I opted for the KA_BAR instead. They would have been the same price so I got the KA_BAR.
I like the story of how it got its name. There is a legend that it was from a letter written by a fur trapper that ad to use it to kill a bear. The letter was only partially legible with the phrase Kill a Bear reading as someting like KA-BAR.

I cleaned the blade off and put the sheath through the wash. It looks like it's hardly been used.
That's a pretty unique story for naming a knife.

This knife lookms like it could be used to kill a bear.
That CRTK fixy is cool. I do not like the CRTK folders though. They have this secondary lock mechanism that is annoying as fuck.

Hmm. Im trying to decide whether this would be too big to carry on a trip. We'd be going mostly by train and id have to open carry since it is too large to conceal.
I plan on spending a good portion in the Appalachian mountains and can see it being a very useful tool. What sold me on it was when he said you could use it to chop wood if need be. It does have the weight.
What do you guys think?

I would get a kukiri for an all purpose survival knife. But that's my own preference.

I carved two yaag drasil runes for protection into the handle.
May they protect me so I never have to use the knife as a weapon.
