It's not stainless, only stain resistant. It's a Japanese yanagi (sashimi) blade, which I have used heavily and maintained for 3 years now.

It keeps well, as long as you clean and dry it after you're done using it. I have kept it in nearly mint condition (except for dropping it once :mad2:)

Shroomism is correct, it is a high carbon steel

high carbon steel blades are the shit.. especially for kitchen duties they can't really be beat. And especially real japanese steel.
Yeah they can rust, if you don't take good care of them. But they get RAZOR sharp and hold their edge much, much better than stainless.

Frost Cutlery makes some really nice carbon blades, dirt cheap.
A lot of bushcraft people swear by them, for their primary light/medium-duty blade.
I was thinking of picking up a couple Moras.. my last one got lost but it was an amazing little sharp knife

And at $15 each, with a sheath.. you can't beat that.
Carbon steel, razor sharp, high quality knife, but cheap enough that you can lose and not really worry about it.

I carry a Frost Mora as a compliment to my usual carry when in the bush (a modified buck 119 special).
Mora knives are excellent cutting tools that can accomplish most tasks required of it in a survival situation. The scandy grind is what makes these knives so amazingly reliable; within a minute you can have a figure four deadfall carved out and still have time to set it up. And this particular grind is far easier to sharpen when in the bush.
The only drawback is the tang:

But, for the price you can get no better blade. Highly recommended by me.

Nope. For every day use, I have no problem with other than full tang designs, on a well built knife. But when you are out in the bush, full-tang is a must.
If the handle breaks on a short tang, it will be difficult and annoying to try and fasten a new handle.
Besides, I feel more confident in a full tang, solid blade.

Yeah that's why I carry my badass Fallkniven F1 as my primary blade. Also made in Sweden, it's the "official survival knife" of the Swedish Air Force.
Scandi edge, full tang, Laminated VG10 steel, 59 HRC hardness rating, Thermorun handle.. 8" blade.. 4.5 mm thickness tapered.. thing is a beast.
The mora makes an amazing complement to any setup though, even in the bush. Since it's so cheap I just get like 3 of them to have backups.
I use it more for my general duty abuse stuff when I don't want to abuse the blade on my F1, even though it can handle just about anything, I like to keep it razor sharp for when I need a REAL knife.

The F1 is :thumbup::thumbup: Hands down one of the best "survival" blades out there.
I actually have this guy on order right now, can't wait till it arrives :awesome:

Yeah I did a LOT of research before buying it. My choice was between the F! and a Bark River for a long time, but I eventually went with the F1.

never tried them but they (bark river) are supposed to be some of the best blades out there for bushcraft and other stuff,
and made in america for people that actually give a shit about that sort of thing
- http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/
I still think my Fallkniven is the best all around knife I've ever owned though, hands down.

Its a really nice knife... The blades sharpness has held for months without needing to be re-sharpened, it flips out extremely fast, and the grip is tailored perfectly for my grip (although its not custom or anything). All in all a very, very reliable knife

I like the Kukri style one someone posted, just like the Ghurkas used... kinda.

I don't know if this counts, but this is one of my favorite blades. It's a North Korean Kalashnikov bayonet, no wire cutter like many Eastern European AK bayonets. Yet it isn't one of the early issue North Korean AK bayonets.

but it isn't exactly made for camping.... so I prefer the Spyderco there.

I have a great condition full length M1 Garand bayonet, dated 1942, and a nice K98 bayonet from the third reich era. as well as several other Kalashnikov bayonets et cetera.... The Garand bayonet is one of my favorite 'collectible' type bayonets.

Bottom one. An Opinel No4

partial-tang knives get a bad rap. there are a lot of trash knives out there with partial tangs that simply won't hold up to reasonable use, but that does not mean that the tang style is the flaw. there are a great number of full tang and full length hidden tang knives out there which aren't worth a shit too.

i've made several partial tang knives which lived up to all the abuse i've put them too.

i've gotten into knifemaking a lot more since last year.

i figured i'd post some of my hand made blades:

my finish work on this one is pretty terrible as of the time i took the picture, but i had a lot of fun making this one:

it was a salvaged and reworked blade from another knife which had been broken though.

i need to get an anvil in the worst way. stock removal alone just isn't enough fun.
