Don't have tools to defend yourself because you'll be in more danger. Stay inside at home with your husband and his German shepherd and rely on the police while pretending you have a life. Better yet go live and pretend nothing bad ever happens.

If you're getting to that point from anything that I said then that says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about me.

If you really think that a weapon gives you license to wander into known danger then a weapon isn't going to do you a hell of a lot of good.  Especially if you're going to take some basic truths about human physiology and the actual mechanics of a mortal wound as some sort of an indictment of your own self.  If you're jogging in a place where it's typical for joggers to be robbed, raped and murdered then a weapon isn't going to help you.  Especially if you refuse to believe that somebody won't just drop dead from your killer, sure to never fail mode of a strike.  It takes time for somebody to die, even if they're mortally wounded.  Taking umbrage at the fact that somebody is telling you that it takes time for somebody to die from a mortal wound isn't going to change the fact that it takes time for somebody to die from a mortal wound.

Germane to that, there is nobody who can power through a knife in their guts.  They'll still have plenty of time to kill you in return for shoving a knife in their guts, but shooting them isn't going to make them die any more quickly.  To reiterate, it's not my fault (nor is it my opinion) that the human body works that way.  If you really don't believe me then you're free to ask a surgeon or anybody who's actually shot anybody with a pistol with the intent to kill them.  A weapon can't save you from your own ego and a series of stupid decisions.  All that a weapon afford you is the ability to use a weapon.  Survival and assassination are totally different objectives, in the sense that if your objective is to kill then your own survival is not your objective by definition.  If being told that wandering around a dangerous neighborhood is a bad idea hurts your ego so much that you feel the need to wander around a dangerous neighborhood just to prove that you can wander around a dangerous neighborhood then your aptitude for survival is way lower than you probably figure that it is.

edit:  Gunshot wound victims have a pretty high (i.e. >90%) survival rate as long as they receive treatment within a couple of hours.  The concept of deadman's ten that I've brought up applies specifically to mortal wounds and in the sense that ten seconds is the absolute least amount of time that you should expect somebody to live after they've been inflicted with a mortal wound (which is to say that it can take up to several minutes for them to finally succumb to their wounds).  That is more than enough time to return the favor of homicide.  If your plan for defending yourself is simply to inflict mortal injury upon your attacker then you are going to die.

There's a reason why everybody who actually trains in close quarters combat doesn't leave that shit to chance and keeps on beating their students over the head with this concept of making sure that the bad guy is physically unable to attack you while he dies from his wounds.  Counting on a killer strike (e.g. shooting somebody with a gun) to end the fight because of the fact that it's a killer strike is common, but it's a stupid idea and it will get you killed when it inevitably fails.  It also tends to work best against people who aren't even attacking you in the first place.

What the FUCK is this drivel? Just shut up. How many people have you killed or watch die? How many knife attacks have you successfully survived? Jesus christ just shut up, I can't stand this wall of bullshit. You don't even have a point.
Or your point is knives and guns are stupid and no one has ever defended themselves with one? Great get the fuck out. God what a massive conglomeration of sweeping generalizations and bullshit assumptions.
Just get the fuck out with this neo marxist propaganda. This is a thread about knives, not communism. And you don't really know what you are talking about.

Yes humans are resilient and harder to kill than one might think. Yes most people don't know how to fight with a knife. Yes some people survive 40 stab wounds and 12 bullets.
But people also drop dead from being punched too hard at the wrong angle. Some people get shot once and instantly die. Some people get stabbed once and fall over dead. Some people trip on their fucking shoelaces and snap their neck.
There's ten million trillion to the 500th power number of possibilities. You can't possibly make these bold blanket statements and absolutes that have almost no basis in reality.
Why are you posting in here again? Go away

My girl loves her new knife lol. She just appreciated the gesture all in all. I've been a cold hearted dick for way too long.

She's has her rights restored, with the exception of owning a firearm.  I told her about the gun show loop hole.

That looks like it was made in China. Do you have a warranty on the craftsmanship?

I love the shape. It feels really good in the hand.

Yeah man, I love it. This knife is so smooth I can just flick my wrist and it deploye's flawlessly. I ended up getting the blade in CPM-S90V (59-61 HRC) steel. This knife tucks away perfectly in my pocket under my CCW.:hehehe:

Mine is unfortunately not covered by any warranty. But it sure does give me a sense of SECURITY, which is all that really matters

On the Shroomery the guy with the machete is most likely to accidentally chop his own leg off while the guy with the gun shoots himself in the eye. :cookiemonster:

My latest acquisition is a simple cheap knife I'm nonetheless quite happy with, its the Cold Steel Tanto Lite:

Even as a teen I wanted a tanto knife, one of the samurai trinity of Katana/Wakizashi/Tanto.

I have a Wakizashi, though nit quite happy with it anymore, and now a Tanto.

This tanto is the "affordable" variant of their Master Tanto, a formidable knife:

It also carries a formidable price tag though - whereas this is a $20 item, the Master Tanto is a $200 item.

It gives one a good idea what one would be getting though, and I must say I';m quite fond of this Tanto Lite. For its price its a bargain. Its metal is 4116 Krupp stainless steel, the same steel the top chef's knices brand Wusthof makes its lower end knives of.

One youtube reviewer joked that a Japanese Tanto made from Kruppstahl was sort of an axis powers co-op, but its of corse an American blade, made in Taiwan.
