Been meaning to upload this. You guys have been talking about how decent gerber is and amazon had really good sales during christmas so I got myself a little present.
Also got myself a finger saw so it'll be alot easier to collect kindling/medium sized wood when I'm out camping.

Will also feel safer with it. Whistle is on the string and the case has a fire starter though I'll be surprised if I ever use it. I suppose I might practice with it though, just to learn how.

I almost bought that knife every time I went to Wal-Mart. As far as fire starters, I bought one of these with the magnesium bar
works great. Magnesium will create oxygen once it's ignited and even burn under water.

That looks like it's sole purpose is for cutting necks.

Yeah I have a magnesium bar. I never used it. Had no idea how easy it was. That's kinda crazy.
I think I will fiddle with it and my striker soon.

Still rocking my SOG Trident, but I have to run it across a whetstone almost daily.  It loses its edge fairly easily and I strip a lot of bigger wire with it sometimes.  I need a good hookbill that stays sharp.  I saw that Milwaukee sells one but I didn't get a price, maybe I'll try that next.  The SOG looks like a damn mini-Rambo style hog sticker or something.  It's amazing I haven't been hassled over it.

What do you mean by automatic? spring assisted or like ballistic?

They're very illegal here so I'm sure ballistic isn't quite the right word but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about.

My benchmade is spring assist. The first spring assisted pocket knife I've owned. I personally don't like it. It will pop open in the pocket in my bag sometimes and it's stabbed a good little hole through it.

Haha yeah that can happen from time to time but at least it's a Benchmade, it should last you quite a bit, mine has a bad cut I posted it for curiosity but I have plenty to pick from as an everyday carry.

Here's one I've got from someone's grandmother don't really know it's origin or what it's made of except from steel but the handle seems to be silver, anyway very nice cut…

If you (or she) has never cleaned it it's probably not silver. More likely some combination of nickle and/or steel. Silver will get a green/brown tarnish on it if you don't polish it. Based on how worn the blade looks and how good the handle looks it's either been well cleaned/polished or isn't pure steel or silver. Nickle is the only silver colored metal I know that will retain its shine while steel dulls and scuffs over time.

They make relatively cheap test kits if you'd really like to know.

Looks pretty at any rate. Like a high class dinner knife.

Like you said it's a high class dinner knife and it's definitely been cleaned all along, just old enough to have a bit of rust as it's not stainless but technically it would be historically incorrect for it to be made of nickle.

That's assuming the "history" itself is accurate.

I just find it a bit odd the handle was polished and not the blade. Then again the blade would take much more wear and tear. Even still I'd bet you could clean it up and have it looking sharp... And actually be sharp too
