KA-BAR 7" Straight-Edge USMC Knife

Pretty damn good knife.

Normally around $110 but I got it on sale one weekend for like 65 bucks.

I've been looking for a nice knife lately.  Something of medium size and good quality, and not too expensive.

I have that one... plus several other moras

Can't beat an amazing blade like that for $10-30. Moras rock!

They seem to get more abuse than my more expensive blades.. because I'm not that afraid of hurting them or losing one

Sharpen it yourself! Although I've had to sharpen my 3G blades, once it's done, you won't stop playing with the damn thing. There is always that smile that comes to your face when using it. VG 10 too!

I use a slack belt on a belt sander. 60 microns is usually all I need unless I nick the edge or it had sustained some rough use. All of my go to knives have convex edges which lends itself to the slack belt quite nicely. Super scary sharp is too sharp for my needs. I just go with scary sharp because the edge seems to last longer that way  and unless you are trying to impress someone by splitting hairs with it, you don't want that edge out in the field for practical use anyway. Of course I use a charged leather strop to get the final results I require.

a Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife by J Nowill & Sons (a good manufacturer, most F-S knives are bad quality nowadays)

aka F-S Knife or "Krautsticker"

Not suitable for bushcraft but so effective behind enemy lines that its the only knife to have a NATO catalog number.

Knives don't always come razor sharp.. although most of my moras did.

Sharpen them yourself.. you will need to learn that skill anyway.. what are you gonna do.. buy a new knife anytime one of them dulls?

Japanese water stones are AMAZING, but they definitely take a little practice to get good with them.

Diamond stone sharpeners get the job done. Or sandpaper. Leather strop to finish it off.

Moras are great to learn sharpening on though, they are dirt cheap.. and most are carbon steel which can get a razor sharp edge much easier than other types of steel. Or just practice on a couple cheap throwaway knives. You just need to get a feel for the technique and the proper angles to get the edge you desire.

I got a Leatherman the other day at a government surplus store that sells confiscated items left at airport security points and various other things.  Cost me $15 and was practically brand new.  It's out in my car or I'd name the exact model.

My SOG Trident is still going strong, keeps a pretty good edge and hasn't broken off from abuse or anything like that.  I have a few whetstones that work nicely on it.

I used to love my Trident and Aegis but every SOG I've has had the tip broken off. the Gerbers are pretty nice though especially the Covert Spring assist.

This is actually my first knife ever, I'm a knife noob. I'm quite impressed with how good the quality is. Just need to find a good folding blade now.

Someone swiped my Fallkniven TK3 with Red Quince Burl scales and a 3G laminated sintered steel blade so I replaced it.

I love Mother of Pearl and Turquoise together.
