Nice! I used to a have a Chinese cleaver and that was a wonderful thing to work with. It ended up lost in a friends defunct storage unit some 10+ years ago. I need to get one again. Makes chopping veg a dream.

DontPlay said: Not bad for your first file knife man. I still remember my first one ever Use some 1600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and you can clean out most of the tool marks from working it. I usually use 1000 and then 1600 polishing them up. Buffing them up with blue jeans works fairly well too.
I use the bare minimum when it comes to modern tools when making mine, just more fun in my opinion
Most files are made from pretty hard tool steel, and when you retemper and heat treat them they get VERY hard. Took me 3-4 hours with a variety of sharpening devices on my last one to put a clean edge on it.
Yeah I picked up some auto grit, 1000, 2000 and 3000. I have a stone too as I mentioned, but with the curve in the blade, the paper is so much easier, I wrap it around a pencil and use the pencil as a sander!

I could polish her more, but I tempered and hardened the blade earlier today and tested it on wood. Beautiful, I can't wait to actually start carving stuff. I need to make a handle for it now.
That's really nice, are you going to wrap it in electrical tape and be done with it or what?

Wasn't taking it seriously in the first place. Though this is "The Great Outdoors", not the pube, so expect jokes to not come across as funny.

I forgot about this one too.

This knife was made for me by a good friend of my Fathers/me. I shot the deer that he made it out of. That was 24 years ago. It's a custom left handed version. He died a year after making this knife. He gave one to my Father and Brother also.

The steel makes all the difference. You get what you pay for. That is a sharp looking knife you've got there. You can get the tip reground.
TK3 Red Quince Burl 3G steel
F1 3G steel
F1 VG 10 steel
H1 VG 10 steel
I'm glad I bought those knives 10 years ago. They were a lot less expensive then. If a tip broke, I'd send it right back to Peter Hjortberger. I would never buy a knife with that kind of a price tag on it.
One of my F1's cost $65 on fleabay and both of my H1's were $99. I thought that THAT was expensive.

Here's a few of mine, I have a bit of a knife addiction.
Left to right, top to bottom
Ontario Rat 7 1095 Spyderco paramilitary 2 s30v Spyderco military titanium s30v Spyderco Delica Vg10 Benchmade subrosa s30v Zero Tolerance ZT0350 s30v Ontario rat1 aus8 Cold Steel small AK47 aus8 Buck Strider Leatherman original
The Rat 7 and Leatherman always come along with me on outdoor adventures while the rest are all part of my edc rotation with the paramilitary 2 getting carried the most. The paramilitary 2 just seems to be the best balance of size and blade shape.

Those are nice. I see that you like the one handed opening.
I have a Leatherman that has the hole on the blade for one hand flip opening with a CM 154 blade, a belt clip, and a diamond file. There are interchangeable tips as well. I also have a real small one with a diamond file.

I always have a Leatherman with me when I'm in the outdoors.

Yeah, I definitely like the option of one handed opening cause you never know when you are going to need it. That 154 CM is supposed to be a pretty good steel hopefully I'll be picking up a blade in it soon. Having a Leatherman is always good to have in the outdoors. You never know when you are going to need the screwdrivers, can opener, file, or pliers definitely a must have in addition to a nice large blade... IMO.

sorry for the terrible quality of the pic
but the knife is awesome because david arora sold it to me! and the knife is hand made, and the handle is made from water buffalo horn. I take it with me when i go mushroom hunting.

though the locking mechanism is pretty terrible. it requires pulling back the keychain portion of the blade and unlatching the little metal lock that keeps that blade fixed. arora spent like 10 mins picking out the best one cos the locking mechanism is sketchy as they're all hand made.
anyways i really like it because of where it came from.

That's awesome to have gotten a knife made by David Arora himself.
