new strain and new products from MUSHMUSH
    #948070 - 10/10/02 12:45 AM (21 years, 8 months ago)

We are proud to present a new strain to the community:

Psilocybe cubensis "Transkei"

This is a very special one. A cubensis strain from South Africa, the first we know off that originates from the African continent. The original mushrooms were collected in January 2002 in Transkei, in the Wild Coast region of South Africa. The mushrooms were growing directly on dung in the shade of trees.

Fruitbodies are medium sized and have a pretty solid stem that's a little gnarled. Young mushrooms have bright orange/brown caps that later turn very pale to almost white. A very specific feature is the way the veil stays connected to the cap for a very long time until it tears leaving remnants on the stem as well as on the cap. Most cubensis strains have a veil that tears from the cap and stays on them stem.
Mycelium on agar grows very rhizomorphic.

Cultivation is pretty much the same as with other cubensis strains although the formation off overlay and stroma is to be expected. A coldshock does not seem to have any effect on this strain. Overlay makes watering impossible but the wildly growing mycelium will act as a contamination barrier protecting the substrate. Still yields are substantial and certainly not bad for any cubensis strain. As mushrooms are pulled from the casing they open up the casing layer beneath making watering possible again. Mushrooms show extreme blueing when bruised

here's some pics

Prints and syringes are available now from MushMush

Also we added some new products to our website:

An agar kit to prepare 40 dishes with malt extraxt agar.

Baggies in two sizes

Petri dishes with malt extraxt agar.

Autoclavable poplypropylene jars.

See you at MushMush
