Are my mycelium dead/contaminated?

I havent seen growth in this batch for about 2 weeks and started in around the beginning of October. I dont see any notable contams, but some of the rye has become black. I think this might be due to the fact that I havent spawned it quickly enough, but Im not certain. I have a few pictures, but they arent of the best quality. Thanks to anyone that replies.

Sorry, initially it showed them as up, but I guess they didn't work. Fixed now, though.

You right hard to see on those pics. That looks like mycelium top right of the second picture, otherwise I can not see any major problems with those bags. anything else I would be guessing

They colonized the lower half of the bag, but I broke it up after that, so it wouldn't be one big mass. Since then I haven't noticed any large growth. Still confused on if they're dead or not.

Would you say that even with them only being partially colonized that moving them to a larger bag of poo would be an ok move at this time? I just don't know if they're dead or not and don't want to risk wasting anything.

Can't tell anything from blurry pictures, but don't need to. Any grain project started at the beginning of DECEMBER should be fully colonized by now. Since that mess started in October, it's a lost cause. Toss it out and try again. RR

Thanks for the quick response. Would you happen to know what went wrong, so I don't find myself making the same mistake twice?

Sorry to rain on you're parade. Why not try jars next time? They seem like less of a pain in the ass to deal with. I keep on hearing about various stalled growths with bags. Sometimes the whole thing stalls or just a small part of it. It all seems rather tricky and annoying to deal with. On a side note it sucks you're grains are fucked. Best of luck in the future man!

About the only thing I can see in the blurry pictures is that bag has no air in it. You want a plenum of air in the top of the bag. I always fully inflate the bags after sterilization in front of my laminar flow hood before sealing. That makes the grains use up about half the bag, and the other half of the bag is a balloon of sterile air.
I'd also suggest using jars next time. In fact, I prefer them. I buy large filter patch bags by the thousands, but use them for sawdust/woodchip substrates, and still do grain in quart jars. RR
