inter species erotica

I feel this question belongs in the cultivation forum but people there barley even know what sclerotia is, or what anything besides a cube is for that matter. so this is another thought that came to mind for another novelty grow
I would like to see some mexicana fruits growing with some cubensis.
The things needed are colonized Mex or tamp substrate(visible sclerotia) and a colonized monotub ready for a casing layer.
so since sclerotia is capable of producing mushrooms on its own i am going to try and case a colonized cube tub with sclerotia and peat moss
now I'm wondering a few things. what do you guys think. should i add some colonized mexicana grain along with the sclerotia? should i put the sclerotia along the sides, clumped together or spread out? also, should i just put the sclerotia on top of the cubensis substrate then cover with a lil more substrate, wait for that to colonize and ten add a regular casing layer over that?

Interesting idea for a novelty grow. Personally I would put a few patches of sclerotia/colonized Mex grain here and there on top of the cubensis myc, then case the whole works together. You would probably end up with more cubes than mex this way, but it would make a cool picture to see them fruiting together.

Try a few trays with different methods. The mexicana is likely to need longer, so timing the fruitings is going to be tough. I don't think it's been done before so just experiment with having sectors of each mycelium in a few trays, and thorough mixing in others, etc. RR

here i have ps. galindoi fruiting in the same container as ps. cubensis(penis envy).

not exactly what you are going for but somewhat similar.
If i were to try your idea i would probably include colonized mexicana grain with the sclerotia. i would maybe leave an inch of unspawned substrate on top of the cubensis layer to give the mexicana a chance to grab some land for itself. i would lay out the mexicana in lines or criss cross patterns on top. that would allow the mycelium to still have a wide area to collect resources but not impede the cubensis. then top with a regular casing layer.
good luck! the pictures should be great, cant wait to see how it turns out.

nicce was that done on purpose? or was it just spent substrates thrown in the same container? if it was done on purpose how did you do it ?

so you would also suggest mixing both the sclerotia(with the rest of the spawn) and the cube myc at the same time ?

i would. timing might be hard but chances are they will fruit at the same time. its just going to take experimentation.

i have another question similar, less practical, but would be an even better novelty grow/ photo op what about making and oyster spawn bag. but putting sclerotia along the outside of the substrate. my thoughts are that the oyster myc would hold the stones in place(maybe engulf) once colonized. and once put into fruiting the oysters will do there thing and the stones will try there hardest to put out some fruits to keep there species alive. possible? any ideas?

That would be very interesting to see. I really have no idea how it would work out. My guess is the sclerotia wouldnt do anything. i think it would really depend on the substrate used.

thanks waxnigren. i appreciate the input i have a dozen novelty grows that i will do eventually. a few ideas are posted in my journal. it will be some time before i do the bulk of them I'm spending most of my time figuring out a good way to make substrate bags that all you need to do is knock up. but my guess with what said last is that the oyster myc will consume the sclerotia and not give it a chance in hell to fruit and produce its spores.
