yeah, drop d kicks arse! its unreal just to sit around with the amp up, a joint or two in the mouth jammin' .. its so easy to play tuned down like that, just put your finger over the one fret and you've got a sort-of chord.. good fun

Isn't drop-d just tuning the low-e string down to d? That's what I have thought it was (and been told it was) since I've been playing guitar. Tuning to d-a-d-d-a-d would be like tuning to e-b-e-g#-b-e for glass/brass slide playing two steps down (and minus the sharp). Playing slide bar chords with one finger is fun and all, but you can't really jam  unless you've got it tuned regular.

i tuned my guitar all down one full step.. then the 6th string down again to C.. so its like having the top droped down D in regular tunning except all one full step down.. exactly how slipknot does it.. and alot of other music.. makes it seem richer and deeper

I have my guitar tuned down to e-flat, like Stevie Ray . That's 'cause I play a lot of stuff from him, he bends a lot in his songs, so have to use heavy-guage strings so I don't break my strings all the time (when I first started playing stuff from SRV my fingers got very messed up and I was breaking strings left-and-right) and the strings are hard to play on if they aren't tuned down.

I like the lighter guage. I got some nice elixir strings, and in normal tuning
(E), they are tight. Well I don't do too much bending as of yet so its cool. But I have to be careful cause these strings are old cause I never get shit restrung like an idiot. What kinda guitar do u play. I play a Washburn AE...I should treat it like one. Which reminds me, I have to go clean it.

I'm very sure that drop D tuning is DADGBE, but whatever sounds cool and gives you fun is cool. There are some cool chords you can get easily that way too.

I'm not sure what the tuning you have it in is called, but dropped D is DADGBE. DADDAD is some open tuning and "G" rings a bell with me on that. But open tunings are great. Try DADF#AD, too. Sounds great!

can't find the crosby thing about some of his songs & tunings, but here: http://olga.imedia.com.pl:8080/main/c/crosby_david/laughing.crd
and www.alpha.nl/CSN/songs/music.html
DADDAD good for lotsa dead & dylan & donovan & buzzy linhart & more & nice for harmonics & just noodling...
hehheh---get a mountain dulcimer & try modal tunings... got a capo for the guitar? (altho mixolydian in D and a DADDAD git can mix it up  ... but aeolian, well now that's a "high lonesome sound")

Yeah, just about every song on Dylan's Blood on the Tracks (the original versions, no tthe officially released ones) are in that tuning I mentioned above. Some the officially released ones are, too. Also, plenty of Joni Mitchell songs are in that tuning too (and, indeed, Mitchell was the one that introduced it to Bob).

I play bass guitar.(playing along with reagge and ska usually works great)
I think anybody able to play a musical instrument should try this during tripping.
Otherwise you could always drum on something ( buy a cheap bongo).

I am gald you all knew that was not drop D. I wasnt too sure, I though it was like an open G or C thing. ?: does the DADGBE start from the low end or high? I assume low cause GBE is the high end. THanks for the tips guys. I play a Washburn EA20. It's a beauty. It looks kinda like what Dave Matthews plays but it is thicker and his is a Gibson-Chet Atkins model. I don't like his cause it has no sound hole cause it is so flat and all the sound is out an amp rather than the a phantom soundhole.
