Sodium Carbonate OR Calcium Carbonate to increase PH for casing material

Instead of using LIMESTONE FLOUR (which is Calcium Carbonate) to raise PH (increase alkalinity/lower acidity), can SODIUM CARBONATE be used in my casing instead? Or is it the mineral Calcium the fungi need? The Sodium Carbonate also increases PH (as used in swimming pools to raise the PH of the water) just like Calcium Carbonate would. I've found no posts mentioning or recommending this. Also, Sodium Carbonate is supposed to be good at preventing mold growth (two birds for mushroom growers).
Info found on net:--->>>Sodium carbonate is used to encapsulate and kill mold. When mixed with water and put in a spray bottle, it is sold for its anti-mold cleaning ability. It is also used to blast off mold from wood or other materials.
edit: baking soda is not what i'm asking about....which is Sodium BiCarbonate.

i would think that the sodium aspect of things might bungle it up a little.... The fact that it says that its anti-mold does not bode well, as we are attempting to propagate fungus (albeit, not mold, but has the same general lifecycle...). I would think that the salt would make it a solvent, and burn the mycelium. I have no real knowledge on the matter though, just speculation, so if someone with more knowledge or experience on the matter would care to jump in to help this chap...
i'm gonna say "bad idea" on this one...
edit: doing some google searching, everything that i'm reading about it sound like it smothers out fungus, and is caustic (not to the extent of harming you and me, but could burn up some subs...)...

Thanks SSM....
I will take this as a big "Do Not Use Sodium Carbonate" for now.
I didn't think about the salt thing.... I just knew it raised PH.

Correct, sodium is anti-fungal, not just anti-mold. Use calcium carbonate or hydrated lime. RR
