OrgoneConclusion said: Ghosts as commonly described have no physical substance. Why is it they can walk through walls with ease, yet floors present a barrier? How do they reflect light and make sounds? You know: "OoooOOooohoohhoooooo!"
I do not believe nor disbelieve in ghosts, I have no evidence either way...The attributes you describe there are as good as myth. If there is some sort of spiritual residue existing after the death of the body, who is to say what form or characteristics it takes on...
I have never assumed (if this was possible) that a ghost would be strictly immaterial...
Regarding the "walk through walls" statement, if anything they move through the space between the electrons by will and intention.

I'm the most skeptical guy you'll meet, atheist and determinist, but something about ghosts gives me the heebie jeebies.
I have a fairly crap tale of my own, but I know friends that I completely trust that have the most fucked up stories to tell about crazy ghostly shit they have seen.
One friend used to live in a old cottage on an island and they had the ghost of an old woman living there, ALL the family had seen her on seperate occassions. My friend used to be terrified because it would come into her room sometimes at night. Her parents told her she was imagining things so she wouldn't be scared but when they moved out and she was older they were like yeah we'd seen it a couple of times, and it had scared them too.
A different friend I know has younger twin sisters and when they were younger they would keep talking about a nasty "Mr Noser", and their eyes would simultaneously follow something around the room that wasn't there, sometimes they would watch the area behind where an adult was walking like someone was following them.
I can't remember a lot of details but I know a lot of people who have had really fucking weird experiences, some fairly recently. My girlfriend had a black orb that used to whizz around her flat at ankle level.
If you were to ask me if I believed in ghosts, I would say no. But there's a part of me that can't ignore so much anecdotal evidence. There is no real evidence though

First part removed: I could've sworn that tomcat was a mod in P&S too. But I was mistaken!
How is this general discussion? Does this not relate to Spirituality (which if I am not mistaken, is part of the title of the forum)?

Apparently not the "most skeptical"...
Atheist AND Determinist???
Lastly: OH GOD, not the heebie jeebies
Everyone knows this is a legitimate condition. If this feeling persists, I advice seeking medical advice.
No offense intended, just a bit of fun.

I fail to see why I can't disbelieve in a God but believe that the laws of the universe govern every action beyond the scope of human interferance

I think its important examine the reasons why we would believe or not believe in something.
Is it peace of mind? Maybe accepting that aliens could be visiting earth or ghosts could be with you now is too much to handle?

Its clear to me that the only logical option is to choose to neither believe or disbelieve. Stay open minded and watch. Only make best guesses if you have studied the available material.
Personally I'd like to disbelieve in UFOs and ghosts as they scare me but I have first hand experience with both. I'm not gonna say they were spirits of dead people because I do not know but I'm not gonna say they don't exist either because that would be denying my own experience.

I'm just trying to make a point that people's personal antecdotes do not equal proof of reality. For all I know, he was drunk on a bottle of whiskey when he saw these UFO's or ghosts.

Is that not obvious? I don't expect you to change your POV because I've had experiences.

UFOs are out of the question anyway as they have been proven to exist and this has been admitted by our government officials who have studied them.
Nick Pope work for the UK MOD and was head of the UFO research department.
www.uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IivE04QipjY
Advanced craft have been tracked on radar and sighted by pilots. Advanced craft have landed near a joint USA & UK military base; Leaving physical evidence (radiation, indentation) also suggesting that the craft are not made by the UK or US military.
The only questions in ufology nowadays are where are these craft coming from and who controls them.

I never said you couldn't. I merely expressed my own confusion about it.
Defensive much?
