"Fast Food of The Gods" Question

Hello All! I hope there is someone that can answer this question to this recipee from Erowid. It calls for oyster shell calcium powder. I hope to find out if a calcium/magnesium/zinc caplet can be crushed and substituted or if that is not suggested, can an oyster shell calcium capsule (which will likely have some sort of filler to hold it together) be crushed this and used? If not, any suggestions on where to find this?
Thanks guys!

yeah, they don't mean like vitamin pill capsules. Go to a nursery, or something of the like, somewhere that they have have plants and plant supplies. You should be able to pick up bags of crushed oyster shells for rather cheap... hydroponics stores are good places to check.

Im guessing it also has peat in the recipe. If so, The point of the oyster shell (calcium carbonate) is to buffer the ph so it remains suitable for growth.
Be careful of adding other things like magnesium, which can easily burn mycellium if there is too much. I have seen the capsules but never thought of using them, however my guess is that it would work (i think). As for substitues, I have seen people using crushed chalk (which is also calcium carbonate)
Good Luck

Thank you -- so a regular lawn and garden store should sale it then, I hope? Don't have any hydroponic stores nearby that I know of. Thanks so much - I will check this out tomorrow.

if you are using it in a casing layer, or potentially even a bulk sub, the point of it is almost like gypsum, it buffers the Ph a little and adds body to the sub so the myc can run through it more efficiently...
