Uhhh.... Not my idea of folk music...

I like some folk music; A.A. Bondy and Akron/Family are good ones. Animal Collective-ish stuff is good. Anyone got any good recommendations? (sorry OP, not like that)

Well.. i like some trad folk, but particularly psych and melodic folk of the 60s-70s. Some classic artists worth checking out are Pentangle (Basket of Light), Trees, It's a Beautiful Day, Nick Drake, early Jethro Tull is great. Harmonium is an amazing symphonic folk band. I also have a strange attraction to Horslips. Underrated Irish folk band with a couple great albums.
But nahh OP that music scares the shit out of me..I like my folk a little more laid back. Some exceptions would be Korpiklanni and Vintersorg.

Thankfully there are many other forms of folk less vomit inducing and abrasive

Yeah Pris, thats a little more like it.
I loved the movie "A Mighty Wind". Great spoof 'mockumentary' on the world of folk music. And the soundtrack is pretty fucking good, for being a satire and all.

Might be too new to be called folk but I don't know. Nothing like getting fucked up and watching good ol' hillbillies yelling at you.

That isn't folk music where I come from...maybe some celtic, or english music, or some Bright Eyes(kinda modern, but whatev). I'm not much for that sound, sounds German to me.
