i just started up my new aquarium heater in my terranium about 5 hours ago and the heat only raised from around 72 to 76. Will my 50 watt heater be enough to get up to a temputare of around 85?

Why would you want the temps to be in the mid 80's in your terraNium, hehehe, sorry had to do it. If you are talking about an incubation chamber, it might be better to use a styrofoam cooler, it hold heat in better than an aquarium. And yes the 50 watt heater will do.

well im using a rubbermade container and i am going with the quart-jar method. i'm never offended by any input as i am just an amateur. any critism at this point is good critism

That's good, but you still didn't answer the question, why would you want the temps to be in the mid 80's? If you are fruiting, your temps should be in the mid 70's.

i am only getting my temputare set right now and then i will boil and inject the jars and then put them in to start colonizing at around 85 degrees. Is that good?

Oh, ok, you said terrarium, and what you should have said was incubation chamber, I still stand by my above statement that a styrofoam cooler would to a better job, you may have a hard time keeping the temp up in a rubbermaid because they are not great insulators (sp?) .

well for my current environment a foam cooler would not be ideal. would 85 degrees be good for colonizing? what temp. should i go down to for fruiting?

I don't understand why a styrofoam cooler would be bad, but a mushroom growing terrarium would be alright? But yeah, 85 is great for colonizing, and once you get to fruiting the temps should be in the mid 70's. The other problem with using a rubbermade for an incubation chamber, unless it's opaque, is it will let light in which isn't great for colonizing, you will start to get pins before your jar is 100% colonized.

The foil will keep out the light, but I still say get the damn cooler.

If you are sketched out about incubation, wait till you start fruiting. If its that bad, you may want to wait until you can move to a different environment that you can have all the styrofoam coolers you want. Good luck.

its not really all that bad its just a styrofoam cooler would attract more unwanted questions from friends than a rubbermade container would you know.
