Syringe Shaking And Not Spilling

I looked through the FAQ and did a few searches. There used to be a syringe tips thread by capnmax but its been deleted.

My simple question is: Has anyone had the problem of spore water dribbling out of the syringe if you shake it between jars? If it?s just shaken a tad the stuff comes runnin out. What are some of your pets and make believe friends doing to stirr up the spores in the syringe between jars (or even holes)? Could one just flick or tap the syringe lightly with the finger? The stuff still may run out. Maybe flick it as its in a inoculation hole.

This may be simple, but could make a good discussion on peoples preferred style and grace of smoothe inoculation.

Shake it side to side and not up and down. It kind of sounds like you might have a bad syringe though, as mine never really dribble at all when I shake them.

mine did that too...so i just put the cap thing back on...shake...take cap thing off....heat red hot...poke in the jar.....

I always put the cap back on right after flaming and wiping the needle between jars...I just shake it in a "whirling" motion, take off cap, wiping with alcohol swipe again and innoculate next jar. No problems for me so far.

would not flammin and just wippin the needle with alcohol riskin it too much? i have no alcohol burner... somebody told me lighters leave residue... could i use a propane torch?

Its really good just to use an overturned shotglass with a little puddle of rubbing alcohol in the center and light it. A nice little clean burning flame will be sufficient in turning your syringe needle red hot for a good 30 seconds and not risk the house burning down.

i asked about using lighter a while ago, some guy told me the black soot from the lighter that gets on the needle wouldnt harm anything

I find that lighters dont seem leave a residue if you hold the needle point right at the top or in the blue part of the flame but not in the yellow , as that is where the complete combustion is happening. You can remove the reside blackness gained from the yellow in the blue part of the flame, im assuming its only carbon/carbon chains left on there.

some people flame with a lighter and wipe the soot off with an alcohol swab. this also cools the needle.
