there were fucking maggots in my pickle! i ate about 3/4 of the thing and looked down to see a brown (obviously rotting) part of the pickle with little white worms in it. god dammit how the fuck does an insect lay eggs in a fucking pickle??
they could have possibly been there before the cucumber was pickled but doesnt vinegar kill things like that?
i must have ate a few of the fuckers too...

im not worried about any bacteria. stomach acid should take care of any there might be.
its not even the fact that i ate them, its just they SHOULD NOT have been there. i pay to have pickles in a jar soaking in vinegar. not pickles infested with larvae.
sorry about the anger levels here. im just a little pissed that the thing i expect to not have maggots inside of them did.

I'd worry more about the rotting part of the pickle than the maggots. Aren't maggots rather sterile in the grand scheme of things?
They use them in medical practice to sterilize and eat away dead flesh.
I could be completely wrong. But if i were to bite into a pickle with maggots crawling out of it, I'd probably freak. Were they still moving?
And Crasher, I just bought 2 big jars of pickles from Costco yesterday. It's a good thing they are all going towards a very tasty German Sweet Pickle recipe that I'm using to cover all of my christmas gifts.

If you can get over the initial grossness, sometimes maggots actually improve the flavor of some vegetables. I'm not talking about eating the maggots, but the best carrots I've ever eaten has maggots in part of them that was completely cut away before cooking. Our hypothesis was that they started some chemical reaction in the carrot that made it extra tasty.
