I'm curious what this class is. At first, I thought you had taken a bunch of quantum before statics and dynamics (mechanics), but then realized that I had misread.

Statics and dynamics isnt technically part of my curriculum. I think we touch on that material in the freshman class and then a little bit in classical mechanics. Ive seen the engineers take statics though, its a little different.

Statistical mechanics is the statistics of large ensembles of particles basically. First some probabilities, then the basis of thermodynamics and various distributions. Started with basic binomial type distributions. Then did cooler ones like Planck distributions of photons and phonons, and then of course fermi and bose statistics. It was a fun class.

Actually woke up in the middle of the night... took a sleeping pill and am waiting for that to kick in.

Im guessing that because of the story of how it was developed? It is cool, crazy how important things come out of weird circumstances.

For those who dont know, the poisson distribution was devolved when the french army commissioned Poisson to study the distribution of deaths by mule kick in the french army. There were a few hundred thousand people in the army, and a couple would die from mule kicks every day. So he studied that and can up with some maths that describe a great deal of events (besides mule kick).
