On the verge of the verge of the verge of WAR
    #939908 - 10/07/02 12:32 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Bush makes a speech in half an hour.

Fox is covering it but I heard the major networks won't show it.

I don't know if that is true, or if it was true but now they have been pressured into it.

CBS was advertising their usual lineup tonight I think.

Anyway, this could be the speech that brings us back into Iraq.

Pop some corn.

I can pretty much sum it up for you...

blah, blah, blah...Iraq is a unique threat... yadda, yadda, yadda... precautions must be taken to protect Americans... blah, blah, blah...When these demands are met, the first and greatest benefit will come to Iraqi men, women and children...etc, etc....

For a quick translation: The U.S. is going into Iraq whether you like it or not...

This is history.

This could be the beginning of the end.

You should watch it just for the sake of seeing the beginning of the end.

I am listening to him as I type this, and I am suddenly feeling a very sinking feeling in my stomach...His speech is so propaganda filled that I can barely tolerate it...

I have not had the chance to see Bush's speech yet, but I'm already pretty sure about what he said.

I have to say it now: something bad is going to happen in the not-so-distant future. Maybe even soon. I'm not the only one I know who has come to this conclusion, either. The friends I have who, like me, scour the news from all over the world dayly have also come to the same conclusion.

I'm afraid that we may be in for a rough ride. The best of luck to all of you.

I also heard that abc, and all of the major networks couldn't tape it live. HMMMM

I have a theory, ok when i was watching it, he mentions kennedy, i though for a sec there were some background booooos. It was almost slient, you could bearly hear it. I don't know, i think that the reason that they couldn't tape it live, is in case something liike boooos or somthing else from someone angery might happen, and they could edit the tape to erase something if it ocurred?

Right on. But I think he (Sadaam) did spray some chemicals on some of the people --but this is (unfortunately) not a good reason for a full-scale invasion. I thought Bush did a good job with the speech though. He's toning down the saber-rattling a bit. He seemed a bit more open to furthering the diplomatic process.

I still believe what I've seen in documentaries about Sadaam.  He is ruthless.  He rolled (with tanks) over the live bodies of Iraqis who disobeyed his regime, in the center of their village, in front of their families, as a warning to those who would oppose him.  Have you seen "Lessons of Darkness" by Werner Herzog?  That's another video that shows some of the brutality that goes on in Iraq.  You get to see children and young men who have had limbs lopped off, toungues cut out (by the military police), etc..  I still oppose an invasion though.

I first heard this guy (Dr. Len Horowitz) on Art Bell a couple of weeks ago. He is a big conspiracy theorist. I just got this e-mail from his website:tetrahedron.org . I don't get what he is saying sometimes, but it is frequently interesting. Why would the government want to expose its culpability? Here's the letter:

Bioweapons Expert Proves Pentagon Papers Release a Political Fraud

Sandpoint, ID ? A Harvard trained bioweapons expert has
documented a political fraud with this week?s allegedly ?new?
release of Pentagon papers showing the testing of germ weapons
and nerve gases on American civilians and military personnel
during the 1960s. According to Dr. Leonard G. Horowitz, author
of a national bestselling book in which the military documents
were reprinted, these and other tests were extensively detailed
as early as 1975 during a congressional investigation into the
Central Intelligence Agency?s (CIA) illegal storage and testing
of such weapons of mass destruction.

As detailed in Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola?Nature, Accident
or Intentional? (Tetrahedron Press; 1-888-508-4787)
documentation showing the CIA, directing project MK:NAOMI? America?s
top secret biological weapons program?had stockpiled
deadly nerve gases and biologicals, and maintained intelligence
on military experiments from the 1950s through, at least, the
early 1970s. The illegal weapons cache included biologicals for
anthrax, smallpox, tuberculosis, brucellosis, encephalitis ( a
relative of the West Nile virus), salmonella food poisoning, and
toxins that caused botulism and nerve paralysis.

Contrary to widely disseminated news reports this week, the
documents show far more than four states disclosed by the
Pentagon papers?Alaska, Florida, Utah and Hawaii?were exposed to
weapons tests during the 1960s. Biological weapons test sites
included the Food and Drug Administration Building, the National
Airport, and the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Washington, DC. Some
of these experiments deployed E.coli, strains of which currently
threaten meat supplies. New York, NY was sprayed with Bacillus
globigii?a bacteria that might have caused the elderly and
immune compromised people to become ill.

In addition, the Congressional Record from 1977 cited numerous
contracts administered by several universities and private
laboratories engaged in the military?s ?Biological Testing
Involving Human Subjects by the Department of Defense, 1977.?
According to the Hearings before the Subcommittee on Health and
Scientific Research investigating the Army?s secret experiments
on American civilians and military personnel, two of these
contracts were managed by a private company implicated in the
earliest studies of the Ebola virus. Litton Bionetics Research
Laboratories, which oversaw all of the cancer research and
weapons testing programs at Fort Detrick in Maryland during a
largely funded, little known, ?Special Virus Cancer Program,?
also developed other biological weapons including ones that
combined simple flu viruses with leukemia viruses, apparently to
test airborne leukemia. According to these documents, reprinted
in Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola, this subsidiary of Litton
Industries, routinely engaged in advanced biological weapons
experiments using genetically modified viruses that produced
profound immune system failure and the unique cancer complex,
more than a decade later, named AIDS.

?There?s no doubt that human subjects in New York and central
Africa were being used by these military?medical industrialists
to even test cancer and AIDS-like viruses during the late 1960s
and early 1970s,? Dr. Horowitz said. ?This recent Pentagon
release and broad news coverage of it, smacks of a royal ruse.
This information is not ?news? at all. It appears to be some
form of propaganda and political agenda aimed at superficially
exposing America?s culpability, along with Saddam Hussein?s, in
exposing human populations to genocidal weapons.?
