I'm thinking about joining the reserve.
    #943540 - 10/08/02 04:54 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I was thinking of joining the army reserve. I wish to know peoples experiences and opinions but more importantly I wish to know where i can get up to speed on our government's involvment in the middle east. Im sure I could get all of these just by reading this forum often (and i will do that) but an upfront request feels necessary.
I Appreciate anyone willing to contribute.

for some people the army is a good place
if you cant get your shit together the army will help you become disaplined and organized
ask yourself what purpose you want to serve in life
analyze the actions and events of reality and decide how you want to affect that
peace in the middle east

Disapline, organization and self-esteem definitely feels on order in my life. All three of these things will help me, plus the money for college wont hurt.

I already feel that as a race in the middle of nowhere, democracy is our best bet.  It could at least buy us time.

"analyze the actions and events of reality and decide how you want to affect that peace in the middle east"

See thats the problem. I dont know enough about what's going on over there. If i follow the news, there always seems to be information and history im missing. Is this simply about stopping some malignant, Uneducated, delusional part of the world from taking down the whole? There are so many opinions. I simply dont know how to sift the usefull from the shit.

If you're going into the reserves, count on going on active duty. My brother (who's a green beret - special forces master sergeant) has started his second continuous year of active duty since 9/11. Remember, you will be a political pawn.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

To put it blunt, you will become a hired killer. If killing other humans is your thing, the army will be fun for you.

Disapline, organization and self-esteem definitely feels on order in my life. All three of these things will help me, plus the money for college wont hurt.

Since you seem to understand exactly what your problems are, don't be a lazy ass and fix them yourself. You will feel much better about if you can change your life on your own instead of having an anal retentive sergent yelling/spitting in your face in the army. And by the way, that's not discipline they teach you, its conformity, assimilation, submission, ignorance, and brutality. If you feel this is a good way to make some money for college, go for it.

See thats the problem. I dont know enough about what's going on over there.

do you realize what you just said? US just finished their mini war in Afghanistan, now they will go into a full-scale war with Iraq. If you join the reserves, there will be a very good chance they might call you in action since bringing back the draft is already in process. You will go into a war not even knowing why the hell you are there.

Please don't take this post as me trying to flame you, or me acting like a total asshole. I'm just trying to make a point. I strongly suggest you do some serious research on what's happening in the middle east. this site is an very good place to start http://www.whatreallyhappened.com. do check it out, peace.

P.S. I know several people who joined the reserves and quit shortly after, they said it was a "different" experience but they would choose not to do it again.

If you decide to join any branch of the military, you must
decide first if you have the ability to KILL your fellow human,
based on (right or wrong) the agenda of our government.

I see a lot of posts regarding being a "puppet". If you enter
the service, you will truly be a puppet. Once you raise your
right hand and take the oath, you become PROPERTY of the
United States Government.

As a soldier, you are viewed as an individual weapons system.
You are no more than just a number... a statistic... a means to
defeating the "enemy". Keep in mind, "enemies" of the U.S.
Government include the multitude of sick and dying people
imprisoned for the medical usage of MJ.

Being a "reserve" soldier, you are the "cannon fodder" of the
forces... You are more than expendible... Your flesh and blood
will pave the way for "regular" forces to move in and complete
whatever action you have been tasked to do.

The United States "War on Drugs" extends FAR beyond our
borders and the boundaries of said war are constantly blurred
by propoganda perpetuated by our government and its OIL driven
WAR MACHINE.

With that said, I am not just spouting off rhetoric based on what I
have seen in the news. I spent 7 years of my life in the service. I
learned many different ways in which to maim and kill my fellow
human being. I have seen more atrocities than I would care to relate.

I do know from years of experience that VIOLENCE is a product of
uncontrolled HATRED, no matter how justified the action may be.
A violent response to a violent action (when not IMMEDIATE SELF- DEFENSE)
is no better than the original crime itself... The hatred is just perpetuated
to live another day and claim more victims.

As far as discipline and money for college... You can learn discipline by
learning a sport, a craft, or a trade. You may qualify for educational grants,
internships, or scholarships.

By posting to this board, you obviously have access to a computer and the
internet... USE IT. You have the WORLD at your fingertips. Take a day out and
do research for what you truly want to do in life. If you want to learn to
efficiently murder humans, and in your own mind justify your actions, join
the destructive power of our modern military.

Ask yourself, "If I could do anything as a mission in life, what would it be?".
Would you want to be a musician, an artist, a teacher, a doctor? What would
it be. I venture to guess a KILLER would not be part of that answer. YOU
can do anything in this lifetime you set your mind to. Just be careful of who
finances your dreams, because YOU will be the one who pays the ultimate
price.

KNOW fully of what you are getting into before signing a contract and taking
an oath. Study history (both present and past) regarding our military and what
it's world mission is and has been. Talk to military vets and get their opinion.

Most of the vets I know are appalled at the politically motivated actions of our
military. I personally got out of the military (Honorable Discharge) because I
could not justify being part of machine set on dominating the world's stores of
fossil fuels and the drug trade.

Sorry for the rant... just hate to see somebody go into the military not being
informed.

Before you beat a child, be sure yourself are not the cause of the offense.
