Growth on press and seal
    #9445924 - 12/16/08 07:46 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I did a small tray of a crumbled BRF cake to hpoo. I covered the tray with press and seal and slit some holes for GE. when I peaked in on it to see how its coming along I noticed mycelium growth on the press and seal. Is this going to be an issue? My plan is to let it sit and do its thing while I am gone for Xmas doing the in-law thing. I figure it will be 100% by then. I may try to snap a pic of it tomorrow and post it.

I'm not sure what press and seal is, I assume it's kinda like Saran Wrap.  Did you put it right on the surface of the substrate?  If so you don;t want to do that, unless your trying to make it pin, then you would want to use wax paper anyway.  But if it's not on the substrate you should be fine.  Some of the myc might grow onto it but that should not be a major issue.  How long has it been colonizing?  If it's reaching that far up already then it must be close to done?  Some pictures would help too.

Ok I took some shots the flash bleached out some of the detail but you can see. The good news is its a nice rope like mycelium. It is just above the sub surface. It has been in just under a week.

Here are a few shots. I put the slices in for GE.

you have alot of holes in that press n seal.  that might cause for some early pinning before the sub is 100% colonized.  like was mentioned:  next time use foil and just put a few fork holes in it for gas exchange and dont look at it for at least the first week.  you got some strong looking mycelium going for ya though.

are you sure that my is on the press and seal and not coming out of the top of the substrate and touching the seal? i have seen myc grow out on plastic but not MS and not cubensis. i wonder if there is any vegetable cellulose in the press and seal?

Man sorry I forgot to say that I had less poo in this tray before and it was going way fast and I needed it to slow down to be ready when I get back not when I am gone so I put a layer of poo over the early growths of mycelium that was starting to show on top. I guess patched it if you will for lack of a better term.
