I know this sounds silly but is there any place that sells sterile pitri dishes with agar already in them? Maybe I miffed something up but I cant seem to get the agar to NOT contaminate.

maybe you should talk about your method of making it. I have a dish that is about 4 months old never used and it has 0 contams. im waiting to see how long it can stay contam free for.

Slacker, petri dishes 'breathe' out the sides, so you want to keep them in a sterile area after making them. Also, you want to pour in a glove box or even better a flow hood to keep the contams out.

I dont have the money for a flow hood. And my glove box is soooooo ghetto. Its not even a glove box so much as just a plastic bin with holes in it that i put latex gloves on when I use.

We believed you noobie. Very nice looking culture(s) though. Wish I ordered more dishes. I've got like 1/4lb of agar waiting to be used.
Slacker, that's exactly what my (first) glovebox is. It works well, you just get a mister bottle with clean water (I use store bought distilled) and lightly spray the inside before you work. This will settle everything to the floor. Then since there's very little air movement the box is sterile to work in.

yeah well listen to this: I sprayed my gl.box with IPA{instead of water like suggested.}, then i bathed my arms in IPA{oh yes absolutly wet!}, you know where this is going...... then I stuck my arms in{with the thought just in my head that i need to be carefull and NOT USE A LIGHTER}. well.......... stuck my arms in, pulled the syringe out and lit the ligher. WHOOSH!!!!
scars are minimal. all hair is gone. my credibility for being safe. gone. I knew not to but I did anyways while not thinking.
don't be like 4 ho. or else youll look like a girl with no hair on your arms.
