correlation between drug/alcohol abuse and intellegence?
    #9446984 - 12/17/08 12:17 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

is there any scientific proof/evidence that ignorant people are more likely to become victims of alcohol/drug abuse?

IME there is generally a direct correlation.

Not book smarts mind you but with philosophical/abstract intelligence and drug abuse.

i would think that philosophical/abstract intelligence  would probably lead to hallucinogenic USE but not necessarily abuse.. no?

No, actually most people that I know that I would consider as having that type of intelligence are generally alcoholics or are smack heads etc.

They are also generally extremely depressive personalities which would explain the drug abuse.

The more a person has a "omg I'm trapped in a box" feeling about life, the more they want to escape and they get fucked up. The box is confining, the box is boring, the box tells you what to do, the box is your tormentor. A little fake escape from a dull life is good for you, but the people who cant deal at all with the box, just go overboard.

I could be really wrong because I'm really stoned, but thats my thought on it right now. I smoke weed because life gets boring, or the pain is to much. Physical pain as well as psychological pain. Sometimes it's fun to just shake things up a bit, the box is confining.

I don't think it matters how smart or dumb you are at all.

Intelligence might be correlated to depression, which might be correlated with drug abuse.

But I don't think these are very strong correlations.

I know one thing...the smartest guy I know (IQ 160 if it matters) smokes weed, drinks liquor regularly, and also does rolls when he can get them...

I don't think there is any correlation.  I know plenty of smart people that abuse drugs, and plenty of less intelligent people that use drugs.  I use drugs for all different reasons, from inducing states of euphoria, to have a good time, to learn more about my self.  And the word "drug" is just used by governments so that we cannot learn about substances and their properties intelligently because pharmacological agents that perturb brain chemistry can make people think and feel differently, and governements are absolutely terrified of people feeling and thinking differently than what they try to impose.  This is why governments throw a blanket over all psycho actives and call them "drugs"  The government has been and im sure is still trying to force its citizens to think 1 way about certain issues (propaganda) and control its citizens in attempted mind control projects (MKULTRA)

I agree to some extent, the feeling of identifying with a group.  If the group you identifying with does a drug, you feel as though your not identifying with them unless you partake in the same activity.
