Are we in a tech RISE or plateau?
    #944361 - 10/09/02 02:36 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Technology has been advancing ever sense the caveman.  Picture this advance and increases in tech as a graph that grows and grows and sometimes plateaus, like the dark ages had little advancements.  In the past hundred fifty years, we have completely catapulted from horses, paper, and trains to cars computers and aeroplanes...  So are we Ebbing  Flowing or plateauing?

despite the ever rising levels of technological sophistication there are still people like you who use "sense" where they mean "since."

In the future, if there is such a thing and we're not trapped in some damned alternate universe or something, please try to couch your topic in terms of either spirituality or philosophy.  That is what this forum is for.

The other's comments turned your topic around but I wouldn't rely on that.

Cheers,

I may not know what is and what isn't "officially" philosophy, but technology and it's ramifications seem legit philosophical topics to me....

Anything can be discussed philosophically but that doesn't mean that it is.

I could start a thread with the title, "My building fell down." And proceed to talk about the structure of the building. That is not couching the topic in philosophical terms. It would be better stated as, "The role of fatalism in our lives; My building fell down." Then I could talk about whether or not things happen without cause or whether we can do anything to delimit the odd coincidences that happen in our lives.

Philosophy is not a catch all topic. I will create a thread dedicated to this since so many do not seem to get it.

Cheers,

CPU speeds are still doubling every 18 months aren't they? The curve is getting closer to vertical, but how could it ever be totally vertical? And how did the McKenna's come up with 2012 for that? I heard they came up with that before they knew anything about the Mayas or any of that bag too.... Weird.

It can't get vertical. The curve is exponential, not parabolic. But if it DOES get vertical, that probably signifies the invention of time travel, or something equally revolutionary that would render the whole graph (progress as a function of time) meaningless.
