cobweb after dunking
    #9443196 - 12/16/08 11:36 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

hey in my las 2 grows, the first flush have been great, but after i dunk them and put back in the fc, they get cobweb mold, after a day or 2, and i end up throwing them away, cuz i dont wanna risk it. so heres what im doing. after the first flush is done, i pick the aborts off, and soak in water for 12-18 hours, and then i drip dry and put back in the fc. does ne1 know what can be causing theis, or how i could fix it?

i think. its white and looks like it has the texture of sand. it wipes off with a qtip. if i leave it in insolation, the white will turn into green or a yellow color. and it only happens after i dunk it

You sure its cobweb? you asked on Contamination forum section and they guys said it cobweb indeed?

Well its very suggested to dunk overnight inside a fridge, the low temp prevent bacteria and contamination growth.

There is no need to dunk in a fridge.
I have never dunked in a fridge and I have not had any problems with contams from dunking.

OP, What are you using for a substrate and how are you making it?

Is this a recurring problem? Or was it only on one grow?

That sounds odd to me?
I have no idea.

Here is a great thread for newbies and experienced growers to read.

Somewhere in that thread it mentions the "dunk in the fridge" comment from above.

It sounds like you tossed out perfectly good cakes.  Dunking doesn't cause contaminants, especially if you rinse well under the faucet both before and after the soak as recommended.  It's common for a fluffy white mycelium to grow after soaking.  Cobweb is gray, not white.

Are you sure that its turning green and not blue?
And the yellow could be mycelium piss.

I have the same problem with grains, I have done two batches so far and both got that bacillus too. 3 jars the first time and 5 out of 6 in the last attempt. But I do have one jar of WBS that is just fine and I am spawning that to some coir/coffee/verm in the morning. I also have some South American and Ban Hua Thanon PF cakes that are all ready, that I will be breaking up and spawning to this mix.
As far as the cobweb, I dont see how a simple dunk will cause this but it must be happening.
Try to rinse them before and after you put them in the dunk water like RR said above. And H2O2 will get rid of cobweb. Do a search and I am sure you can find the tek to do that.
Good luck.
Peace.

I had problems with wet spot in my half-gallon jar of grain.  It needs to be PC'd for 2 hours.  I tried 60 minutes and 90 mins, both got contamed with bacteria right away.  Tried again with 120 mins, and it's doing wonderful.

Here's what cobweb looks like up close and personal and next to healthy mycelium for comparison.

Grows fast a shit too. those pics were 3 days apart.

I have also seen cobweb in those hidden tupperwares in the back of the fridge, You open it up and you see a huge cobweb growth, close the lid and throw it all in the trash.

I just toss my contam'd jars into the PC for 90 mins, dump em out back and wash the jars out to re-use.

Every once in awhile I'll find a cup of coffee/soda hidden in some corner of the house and it'll eb filled with some crazy molds.. just soak em in hot soapy water for an hour then wash them out.
