Not active, but are they edible? + first post
    #943808 -

It rained all day and I had time to kil, so I went for a walk. I found quite a few shrooms, but only 2 species and I don't think either were active.

a. Habitat (cow poo)
b. Characteristics of the gills (gray or black, attached, gills)
c. Measurements of cap and stem. see pics
d. Characteristics of the stem (whitish, smooth, solid, somewhat hard)
e. Characteristics of the cap (whitish, smooth, slightly concical, convex)
f. Spore print color (black I think, some dark color)
g. Color that the mushroom briuses (NOT blue within 30 min)
h. smells exactly like the ones from the store, oysters I think?

First a shot of some really wet ones: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08445.JPG[/image]
Here are some better looking ones: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08446.JPG[/image]
A gill shot: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08449.JPG[/image]

Finally, the two biggest: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08459.JPG[/image]

Next, an interesting nasty looking thing. It had a bumpy cap, one with a slight orange tint, the others mostly whitish. Pretty big, no gills. Kind of looks like some amanitas I've seen pics of.

First one I found, kind of an orange color to it: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08455.JPG[/image]

The others [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08457.JPG[/image]

Finally, just wondering about this for the hell of it. Growing on a log: [image]C:\documents and Settings\dave\my Documents\my pictures\Oct08437.JPG[/image]

Oh, and this is my first post here. Been reading and reasearching several months now, finally had a question. Great board!

Dave, you've got to upload those images to a site. Preferably the shroomery, click on the "Put pictures in this post" link when you reply. It should be above the text box that you type your post into.

If you aren't sure don't eat them.

Hmm, looks like you have the wrong url to the pic, or you didn't upload them properly.

From the description and pictures, I would guess Panaeolus antillarium. A common, inactive Panaeolus, which is unedible.

Dude, I can't really tell from the pics, but they kinda look like the pan copes I used to pick. What is your location, if in florida or a southern state they might be copes, but like I said, from the pics I can't tell. Good Luck.
