Coir/dung is basically used as a bulk substrate. Peat is used as a casing material. If you are looking for yield mix the cakes with coir/manure then case with Peat moss and vermiculite.

Dung wouldn't be a suitable casing layer. A casing layer wouldn't have much effect on your yield. I think you have your terminology confused. A casing layer isn't a bulk substrate.

What about using 50/50 straw/manure??
That is what I plan on using for bulk after my first few successful grows.

That'll work as a great bulk substrate as well.

if u got brf cakes dont break them up unless you are spawning to bulk , fruit them with a simple layer of verm on them .. of the 3 mediums u listed only 1 is a casing material ... casing material is non nutritious ... now if you're making some cased bulk substrates coir and poo 50/50 are good to spawn to ...

I would sub coir instead of peat. do like 60/40 or 50/50 with coir and vermeculite. I just cased with peat, bought 2 bags and wish i never did... I just got me some coir

I think you got your terms a bit mixed up.
Your bulk substrate is a mixture of stuff that has nutritional value. Coco coir, poop, coffee, compost, corn cob, etc.
Your casing layer is made up of non-nutritional stuff like peat moss, vermiculite. It's job is to provide moisture/humidity and lock out contamination.

Don't mix casings and bulks.
Coir, poo, straw = bulk substrates Peat & verm = casing materials
ALTHOUGH you can mix some verm in your bulk substrates to improve texture and water retaining capabilities.

Peat and coir are good casing material. Yes, coir has nutrition but that does not mean it isn't a great thing to add to casings. coir/verm works just as good, imo better than peat/verm. With peat, myc energy is wasted by colonizing the peat. When myc starts to colonize coir, it actually grabs onto more nutrition, and coir is the perfect consistency for a casing layer. Only difference i notice in using them is that coir will colonize faster, and turns reddish in color when it gets dry.
Of course if you use coir, just mix it in 1:1 with the brf, and your yield will double. Don't even have to case a coir sub. I like coir/straw/coffee/verm and dont even case it most of the time.
