I have a bunch. Cream's "White Room", Beastie Boys' "Sure Shot." (Don't ask, the flute and bass in it do a number on my mind when I'm trippin' though.) My other favorite is Led Zeppelin's "The Rover." That's actually probably my favorite out of all of them.[This message has been edited by fbetsy (edited July 10, 2000).]

You have to try tripping to Primus. The music takes you to another world, a weird but fun world! Two of my favourite albums are Pork Soda and Tales From The Punchbowl. Other great bands are Cypress Hill, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Astral Projection and Tool.

when it comes to songs that are supreme while trippin, there are but a few. without a doubt, Pink Floyd, the greatest band to grace this planet, provides the best music to listen to while on your trip. any of their many albums will do, but if you're looking for the best tripping albums, get piper at the gates of dawn or ummagumma(studio album is the best for trippin). when it comes to individual songs however, the song that first comes to mind is echoes, on the album Meddle. buy it, listen to it, you'll understand....also, especially if you have surround sound, listen to interstellar overdrive on piper at the gates of dawn.....if you're looking for something extremely out there, but also VERY VERY interesting if you're trippin, listen to several small species of furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict(yes thats all the title of one song) on the ummagumma studio album.....once again, buy it, listen to it, you'll understand......and may we all recognize David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Rick Wright, and last but not least, Mr. Syd Barrett as the gods of rock and groundbreaking musicians they truly are.

Interstellar Overdrive - great post! Guess who my screen name refers to - Mr. Barrett, of course!Piper is an amazing album, but some of the unreleased and early singles Floyd is also terrific - Scream Thy Last Scream, Candy and a Currant Bun and, particularly, Apples and Oranges are great tripping songs. And while Syd's solo stuff is not for the masses, there are gems galore - several tracks from The Madcaps Laughs, the entire album Barrett, as well as some of the outtakes from Opel. Also good for tripping - the underappreciated Alexander "Skip" Spence.

My personal favs are Yes's "The Gates Of Delerium" off of the album _Relayer_ (the entire album is incredible but the song I mentioned is quite intense). Another is Rush's "Cygnus X-1 Book II" off of _Hemispheres_ .. . and of course, Floyd's "Echoes" off of _Meddle_ . .. Check 'em all out! Also, I can't stress this enough...the only way to listen to this music (and in my opinion all music) is with a good pair of headphones. You completely miss out on all of the little nuances when not using headphones. It would be like looking at art work with blurred vision. Using headphones really brings the music into focus...ya dig?

Ah! i love this subject. for me i like alot of the electronic music. but i also get into like phish alot too, probably my favorite band. i tellyou what though. whoever said primus is on the right track. as wierd as it sounds if you can find les claypool and the holy mackeral. thats the band name and the cd is called highball with the devil. that cd will put you under. i don't know why but this cd always does this to people. my friends didnt want to hear it, then i put it in and they were gone. great cd give it a listen especially track 3 highball with the devil. but other then that i love story of the ghost. and the orb cd live in 93. oh yeha another good suggestion the david bowie album outsides. man that cd is just thick with sound. puts you out in a hurry.

Ok Sparky heres the deal..You know when you're trippin and you've reached a point where you think you absolutely can not, will not, ever find the will to move? You just want to sit in one spot, melt, and explore your mind? THAT IS WHEN YOU NEED PHISH!!! I picked 4 favorite trip songs.. 2 by Phish, and 2 by the almighty Beatles. The next time you are melting.. pop in "lawnboy" by phish and put it on ***"SPLIT OPEN AND MELT"*** You won't regret it. Also, the song ***"SPARKLE"*** from the cd "Rift" will make you "laugh and laugh and fall apart..." GREAT SONGS! When you just want to float around and listen to music, put in Sgt. Peppers.. "Mr. Kite" and "A Day in the Life" (along with every single other song on the album) will make you have a whole new appreciation for John Paul George and Ringo.

I'm confused; how is Beethoven's 9th by A Clockwork Orange, rather than say, Beethoven? Especially if we are talking about listening and not watching.

Besides the obvious stuff [phish and pink floyd], my favorite trip music is TOOL. Listening to it on acid made me more aware of all kinds of subtle things I never would have otherwise noticed. And as for whoever said something about listening to Radiohead, I can't imagine trying to listen to something that depressing.. I love their music, but I could never listen to it tripping. Tool isn't exactly happy music, but it's energetic and angry in a happy way instead of morose and hopeless. [Again, morose and hopeless music isn't BAD, it just doesn't mix with acid as far as I'm concerned.] -bonnie.

Alsome post, I think this really depends on how your feeling and what type of trip it is. Real lsd, like the red gels i had, got to go with jimmy or led on my record player, nothing like a record quality on any drug. If it is more of a speed trip got to go with KORNNNNNN!!!!! peace (its just murder, all gods creatures do it)

My personal favorite is definately PHiSH. The songs You Enjoy Myself, Maze, Mike's song(personal fav), Weekapaug Groove, Split Open and Melt, the list goes on. Besides phish i enjoy Pink Floyd and Bela Fleck and the flecktones. also on the electronic side of music aphex twin plays some amazing tunes especially born slippy underworld(pinkfloyd remix of comfortably numb) its crazy.

Anything by Orb (Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld, Pomme Fritz, Orblivion, UFOrb...); Phish (personally, I like shows, but they have some great studio albums too. But if you can get your hands on bootlegs try 7/16/94); Future Sound of London (dead cities in particular..); plently o electronic trance/jungle: Sasha, BT, Deiselboy, Orbital...; Classical: Bach, Beethoven, Schumann; Pink Floyd; GDead; Medeski Martin and Wood (with DJ Logic)...the list goes on and on.

YES!!! Somebody else likes Camper Van Beethoven! Revolutionary Sweetheart is a great album, very original, very clever and pretty damn hilarious. ChangLee have you heard any of their out-of-print albums? There's some pretty trippy stuff on there. The problem with alot of bands that write witty, amusing songs is that the musicianship usually sucks so they get boring once the novelty wears off. Camper is one of those rare exceptions... Well. Anyway. XTC's Apple Venus Vol. 1 is a beautiful, orchestral soundtrack for your trip, the song "Greenman" is especially wonderful. Layers of instruments and almost paganistic, pastoral lyrics. To me it just sounds like the perfect shroom trip. ------------------ Peace, love and pointy things, Fiona.

The first time I saw The Wall by Pink Floyd, I did 3 great tabs, in my room at night, in pitch dark, listened to the albulm, and let the acid make the visuals.Comfortable Numb, awesome. Aphex Twin's, The Waxen Pith. Actually, there is too much by Aphex Twin that's awesome for a trip. The Doors; The Crystal Ship, Peace Frog, or Roadhouse Blues, and The End.

the soul of modern day psychedelia is rooted in the late 60's. without question the album that captures that time and feeling most is jefferson airplanes surrealistic pillow. shame on you if you are a collector and dont own this, worse if you travel inside the mind and dont own it. this is a must play from end to end on any psychelic journey. my music tastes are stuck in the 60's so i may be partial but of course i listen to all new rock. just cant see listening to beastie boys, primus, metallica etc. when on an adventure. they are booze bands. for those of you who dont own a single 60's album this would be the one to buy.

Sasha and John Digweed are sweet to trip to but there's just so much out there. Aphex Twin ambient albums are wicked, the Green Orbital album made my first trip absolutely incredible. Hendrix is a good vibe. Beatles, Floyd, Steve Roach, Kitaro and even Yanni if you're in the mood for it. Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz is top notch. Miles Davis, Medeski Martin & Wood, Groove Collective, London Funk Allstars, Greyboy Allstars. Shankar, Talvin Singh. Man, there's sooo much good stuff out there. mmmmmmmm music. Stuff involving the devil and human sacrifice doesn't usually do it for me though.

This isn't exactly on the subject but I didn't want to start another music thread. are there any other "diffrent" stuff that anyone is into. My roomates always play the usuals but I am more into hip hop. Any one try Tribe or Outkast? I am listenting to the Love movement and it sound like it may be dope. Doseing this weekend, first time taking an eighth (I am kind of a newbee, I have only tripped 4 times and they have all been at least 6 months apart)------------------ Question, what is it that everybody has that pirates and thieves try to take? There's some sweet hip hop to trip to also. Del the Funky Homosapien and Dr.Octagon/Kool Keith are awesome and trippy but the lyrics could be upsetting in a trip or damn funny. Stuff like Common, Beatnuts, Blacalicious, Black Eyed Peas, Jurassic 5 and Dj Krush are very good. Also Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz is cool hip hop beats and tripped out jazz. Great stuff

Anyone like to listen to dancehall Reggae? Go to a West Indian record store and ask them if they have, "any thing that is nice, mellow, and slow groove oriented." Those DJ's keep the same basslines going for like 20 minutes, and they put all of these phaser effects, and digital windchimes in with the music..plus, these use all of these echoing voices that really trip you out (with the Jamaican accents)...Just tell them you want to check out some nice slow mixes by Stone Love Movement, Emporer Sound, David Rodigan, Gold Dust, or ask them for a preferrece.Another one I recomend is Jimi Hendrix's Live at Monterrey. The whole albumn simple rules. Take your ticket about 45 minutes before you put that albumn on. The whole thing is so rightious and so cool. Right when you get to the guitar solo before Wild Thing, you will be in another world.

i like and agree with most of your suggestions...BUT dont overlook the hip hop genre (to the suprise of many, its not just violent mysoginistic drivel)...here are a couple of suggestions: 1-kool keith aka:dr doom /dr octagon /rythm-x /robbie analog /black elvis...check out the LP "octegonycologist" under dr octagon pseudonym... 2-organized konfusion: not too muh of their music is "trippy" but DEFINITELY give the song "releasing hypnotical gases" a listen 3-de la soul: 3 feet high and rising...some silly skits, but this LP is as trippy as hip hop gets.a non hip hop suggestion: radiohead's "OK computer"...track 3-"subterranean homesick alien" is my choice for a great trip song (and no its not a dylan cover)

i cannot believe that with all the talk of aphex twin, no one mentioned the greatest trip album richard james has ever made: selected ambient works volume 2. he himself described it as being in a power plant on acid.other worthwhile albums: orb: orbus terrarum tori amos: from the choirgirl hotel plone: for beginner piano pumpkins: mellon collie, or machina (the artwork alone kicks ass)

bjork isnt bad to trip to at all...but army of me isnt the trippiest song you'll hear her do. human behaviour, hyper-ballad, and possibly maybe all definitely qualify.remember: doctor uggs is your pal.

If you want a great Aphex Twin song go get the Richard d. James album or whatever you use and get the GIRL/BOY SONG. For me that is my favorite and it shows how good aphex twin can get. Its very classical like with a chello and eveeything, but it has drums. go check it out. Actually im listening to it right now! Also this song is good when your coming down becuase it is so mellow.

Phish - Tweezer The Beatles - I Am The Walrus Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit Orbital - The Box The Doors - Strange DaysWhite Rabbit isn't particularly trippy sounding, but for many people, including me, it carries emotional significance that makes it real great to listen to while tripping. Strange Days doesn't sound very trippy either, but the mood the song brings can really throw you deep into a trip.
