Pan maybe?
    #942423 - 10/08/02 09:43 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

I found this lone shroom in my neighbors yard....his grass is very lush.
I?m not exactly sure what it is....been trying to id it since last night.
I?ve never seen one of these around.
Was thinking it might be a Pan.

I found this one at just the right time....the spore print I made last night is very dark black this morning.

So what you guys think?
I wish MJ was back from Cambodia....I?m sure he has seen this one.
I?m going out hunting today.....I?ll check back later today to see if anyone knows what this is.

thanks guys!

Fo sheezy, its a pan. I would say Pan subb, but the gills don't look right... Pan subbs gill's have white fringes on them and tend to be a little darker. I'm thinking it's Pan foensecii(sp?)... but its just so damn hard to tell the diff between them and subs.
So...My final answer? It's a Pan. Is it active? No clue.

It really looks like a subbalteatus. Im guessing if the spore deposit is a JET BLACK then it would be one.

It is said that foenisecii have a more deep brown to purple brown. The gills on your specimen resemble those of a foenisecii as well.

So, Im confused

looks like a pan, so spore print black: pan sub/active
spore print brown: pan foenisecii/not active

Hehe! The ring is upsenting everybodies mind....
I've seen many Pan. Sphrinctrinus get like that, it's more an allmost dried cap than a real ring. Sphrinctinus have a black spore print. Just another possibility ...

Well, since everybody is saying it's a Panaeolina, let me ask you if you knew Paneolinas have a brown sporeprint ? Microscopical characteristics such as spore shape and color are unique from specie to specie and have a higher value to an ID than any Macro.... my 2 cents.
BTW, has anyone ever triped from a so called Pan Subb. with a brown spore print ?

Thanks Maia!

I don't think its a Panaeolina.

Now it could be a Panaeolus sphrinctrinus as you suggested if it has a dark black spore print.
Your picture is very simular to the one I found....at least to me.

Thanks for taking the time to post.
