does anything really touch anything, or is it just friction to the enth degree?
can an atom be smushed? ever try smushing a flea? their too small, so i figure its the same way for an atom, and atoms make up everything, so nothing really is touching, right?

Powerful lasers and magnets are used in the fusion or merging of atoms.

If you do not access to billion dollar physics tools, stiletto heels will work in a pinch.

its more like everything sticks together, like velcro or spit.

In ordinary reality (without a particle accelerator), atoms don't actually touch each other. If I smash my hand on the table, the electron cloud of the atoms in my hand comes close to the electron cloud of the atoms in the table and they repel each other, giving the illusion that my hand has come in contact with something. Even atoms within objects aren't touching each other, they're usually just floating in a sea of electrons with their nuclear repulsive forces preventing them from getting too close.

The smash atoms regularly in huge particle accelerators where they accelerate electrons to tremendous speeds and bang them head on into other subatomic particles or atoms. A whole array of strange particles are released as a result of this collision, such as gluons, leptons, quarks, baryons, mesons, etc. Nobody really knows what's going on at that level, but it is really fascinating.

Yeah, it's an illusion that we're all connected... we're actually all quite separate. hehe
