Would you go to war? ( a poll)

"Hypothetically" speaking...if the U.S. imposed the draft to go fight in Iraq, knowing that they are not a threat to the U.S. (much like Vietnam)...would you go? Would you assume that because the government imposed the draft then it must be a serious enough issue to risk your life over?

Biased questions. I can envision people voting "no" for reasons other than that they don't agree with the MOTIVATION. The simple fact that a draft is unconstitutional, for example.

I have given my time to the military already. The only way I would ever go back (drafted or not) would be if an enemy force landed on US soil (one of the 50 US states only). Thats just me though.
EDIT: And maybe to protect Canada too

I agree with you Frog...I think that should be the ONLY time that the draft gets enacted. The reason for this poll, is that I have a creeping suspiscion that the U.S. will re-instate the draft. The U.S. military reserve forces are being stretched to their limits right now...another military action by the U.S. will just thin them out more. It would only seem logical to impose a draft...

I voted in the second. The first was way too leading.

Actually Rono I preferred your first version of the question. It had balls.
The second one is a little too Fox news for my taste

I'm going to enlist, war or no. Without getting into the political aspects of a war with Iraq, I believe it is every willing US resident's duty to serve in the military. This'll start a whole new argument :P

I will not hesitate to take up arms to defend my country. This is not the same as doing the bidding for the entrenched bureaucracy and military industrial complex. The greatest hawks in the current administration never served in combat. The person who has pushed most for a diplomatic resolution is the only major figure who has. I fully support the right of those who wish to overthrow Saddam Hussein to do so, but they should do so without the tax money stolen from those who oppose such action or those who don't feel there is a need for it.
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I agree.
If say the canadians launched an invasion, I might change my mind, but I don't want to go liberate our little brown buddies or whatever.

This is a good question, Rono, an important question.
Here is the acid test: the only war that one can truly say is just is the one that one would be willing to take part in oneself. Anybody who supports this attack but isn't willing to risk his or her own life by joining up is clearly a hypocrite. That is to say, it reflects the view that it's okay for others to die so that my ideological cravings are satisfied and so that I can have a (very false, I might add) sense of security, but not for me to die.
One might argue of course that it is "unrealistic" for everybody who supports the war to enlist: people have jobs after all, and families, etc., etc. But if the safety and security of innocent Americans is really what's at stake here (and not just say, Bush's reelection prospects or some other cynical factor), if the situation is really that urgent, then surely everything else must go on the back burner. Survival comes first, doesn't it?
Actions, brother, not words. That's how I shall know thee.

Goodness knows I disagree with you about a lot of things, Evolving, but here I have to say I admire the consistency of your position. You are a Libertarian through and through and you apply your principles without prejudice. I can't say the same about some other so-called "Libertarians" around here who call for freedom from government tyranny one day and then the next enthusiastically argue for a neo-imperialist war of dubious security benefit that will cost US taxpayers AT LEAST $60 billion and lead to a horrendous loss of innocent life.

I'm with Frog31337 - I've already done time on active duty, and they wouldn't take me now if I wanted to go (I'm too old and broken down). So I guess my answer would be "no", even though I've already answered "yes" at one point in my life.
pinky, I'm curious. On what basis do you say the draft is unconstitutional? I grew up with an active draft and knew people who never came back (except in a bag).
