1000 watts enough?

I bought a 1000 watt heating element to use for pasteruazation and PCing, but it seems to be taking a long time to heat up....  :frown:

Yes to what ? Is okay to use ?............I spose so ...............is normal takes awhile to heat up ...........sometimes they will heat up a bit quicker after you have used them a few times . They can be a fire hazzard also .
Economically they are not worth the time .

I have a magic chef 1000 watt electric burner -- it takes forever to get the pressure cooker up to 15 PSI, but it worked fine for sterilization -- i cooked each jar for about 2 hours... twice heheh

sounds like tripendicular is talking out his ass. Yes it will work. I have an 1100 and it does take quite a while. It's pretty much an extra small burner on an electric stove. I havn't seen any larger ones that run on 120v.
