I haven't heard him say that. However, the Bush Administration was known for it's liberal () use of EOs to implement policies that it knew would be contentious or did not want to publicize. I think Mr. Obama would be remiss if he didn't take a look through them and make sure there weren't any there that grossly violated any tenants of the law. I would be shocked if he didn't throw out more than a few of them, as I'm sure his successor will do should he or she be, god forbid, a dirty rotten stinking Republican.

ah the link didn't carry over the time in the video where he says it. it's at 8min-ish.
i think it would be very good of obama to repeal many of the bush EOs that violate civil rights, as he said he would.
what i can't comprehend is how somebody claiming to have an interest in civil liberties can vote for something like the Military Commissions Act, The FISA Amendments, and the bailout packages. they go against the very core of american ideology. and correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't he vote for the 2nd version of the patriot act, or something like that?
finally, if he has such an interest in civil liberties and the constitution, what is he going to do to repeal said laws?

All of those matters are complex, and while I am against some of them, such as FISA, I can understand how someone could hold a differing viewpoint.
The bailouts are complex as well. Every other country in the world supports their domestic automobile industry, and the only other time America has intervened to help one out the outcome was quite good. I think the right kind of bailout, one that involves the restructuring of deals with the union as well as reaching some kind of accommodation with dealerships would be the ideal for all involved. Mr. Obama has talked before of supporting some kind of bankruptcy for GM, which would allow them to accomplish both of the items mentioned above.
I would imagine that you will see many of the things you mentioned revisited by the current Congress relatively soon.

really, then surely they couldnt be failing yet again, the only thing that kept them going for the first 10 years was the forced government contracts for crappy cars and below average trucks, vehicles that leak on the showroom floow, bad cams, bad heads, bad transmissions, trucks that spend more time in the shop than on the road
and all on the tax payer dime

1) It was 30 years ago, not 10.
2) It was a loan, not a bailout. As is this.
3) Every cent was paid back, and the taxpayer made a profit on the interest.
Listen, I'm not going to defend this thing to my dying breath. I'm not a huge fan of it myself. But I understand why they did it, and I think it has a decent shot of working. I think, and I realize many may not agree, but I think it was better than doing nothing, in this situation. At any other time, I would have said let them go. But not right now.

it was 10 years of contracts in which the government was forced to buy diplomats and k cars, I didnt say it was 10 years ago

ah yes, a loan in which the government has to buy the bulk of the product in order to instill confidence in the public that the current line of garbage is better than the garbage they produced that made them go under, all those government purchase payed back that loan and now look where they are 30 years later, I bet Iaccoca is proud
I wonder why the banks wont loan GM the money is it because they know it's a sinking ship

really, I dont remember anyone that payed taxes saying they got a big check from chrysler, you sure it wasnt the government that got the money and they forgot to send out the checks?

i think there's a reason that these auto companies are in trouble, and our economy as a whole, for that matter.
they have been producing non-economical vehicles even though the technology exists, whereas the japanese have been making cars that american buyers want. sure they were doing it on the demand for big SUVs and such, but assuming $1.50 gas forever is absurd. there would have to come a time for more economical vehicles at some point, and they foolishly weren't ready for it.
it is a necessary restructuring of the economy. same with manufacturing jobs. yes they are gone. probably forever. our gov't intervention drove them away with unions, minimum wages, etc. that is why foreign nations produce them cheaper. our strength will come in leading green technologies. sure it will take time, but that is how these things are. it is necessary for the market to make the adjustments, and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it.

Z is correct. He's not breaking any laws. And has no presidential power at this time. He however does have the right to say something.
