Ok so ive read about gypsum and understand what it does, but havnt seen a post on how much to use, i walked into a friends moms garage and seen a bag of it on the shelf for her flowers and it made me think about it. if the casing are made with 3 1/2 pint jars and coir/verm how much gypsum should i add? or would the pros suggest for a newb not to even worry about it?

very little! I'm not sure how much you should use, but I do know you need very little. Like 1/2 a spoon full?

Doesn't anyone else have a negative mental image of the word gypsum?
It reminds me of a gypsy.

If you're talking about a BRF jar, it's not worth adding. BRF jars already have all the nutrition that you could get in there, and are totally good to go as-is. The only thing possibly worth adding I've read, is some liquid coffee in the water you use, which may allow quicker colonization.
Gypsum and other additives are for bulk substrates - or if you're using jars with substrates other than BRF/verm.

If you really want to try additives try using coffee water instead of regular water and also add some spent coffee to your bulk.. Myco loves it..
