Not as important as how others see you.  Unless you're a hermit, image is everything in this life.

Please don't be serious......

Try going to a job interview decked out in sandals and no shirt, then come back and tell us how image makes no difference.

Yeah, but you're not taking into account that society is bullshit and it needs to end.

I said this life, and I don't think society will end any time soon.

This life as in the societal construct?

If it's true that image is really that important, than that just adds to my point that this stupid bullshit needs to end, soon!

So, how others see me defines how I see myself?  Do I define myself based on how others define me?

If people see me as kind, am I then kind?  Do I actually identify with their views or do I mimic them?

If you smile long enough, your mood improves.  Same goes for frowning; try wearing a scowl for a good hour and see how you feel.

Yeah, I read of this somewhere.  I've also heard of laughter therapy used to improve mood.  Apparently, it feels contrived for some time but eventually morphs into genuinely joyful belly shakers.

Please, explain what you mean by "this life" in the context of the above quote.  It's the crux of your statement but isn't well defined.  Could you clear it up?

Modern society, I suppose... anything that's driven by reputation.

And I think that naturally parallels rational man. Talking about society, you are talking about the capability to socialize.

And I agree too. The only social reality we can conceive of is this drama, and that all yous and Is can do is play.

So you're saying that reputation drives society?  I dunno how I feel about that one.  Something doesn't sit well in that idea.  I think it's because, IMO, reputation is a sociological concept.

I'd say that society is biologically driven.

What's with the hate, Poid?  Aren't you a product of modern society?

I guess the facet of modern society that you deal with is entirely unpleasant.

My brush with it has supplied me with glasses, physical therapy to help out an injury, life saving medicines, not to mention food enough to make me fat and sleepy.  A nice cozy house....bananas (I don't own a banana tree).....eggs(no chickens here)......tomatoes(it's winter).

In the long term, though, it does seem that current trends in society seem a little bent toward self-destruction.  I don't think it's anything that won't be handled.  I'm a bit of an optimist in that regard.  But extinction's the rule, not the exception.

No, I'm fine.

Just because I'm not in a blazing inferno, doesn't mean I have to ignore the fact that the blazing inferno exists.

, it's so much more complicated than just "my life sucks, I hate the world"....

I'd like to explain myself further, but it seems that people's brains eventually get tired of hearing these sorts of things, and they eventually give up and start fooling around with each other, dodging the real issue at heart.

true that.  no one wants to hear that people should stop having babies to combat population control.  Or to ration household water use to survive diminishing water tables.

I mean, it's the subtle nuances that get me the most; the little things in life that I can't control.....
