At Last Some Proof for Swami / Yogic Flying
    #938723 - 10/07/02 08:02 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

The mysterious powers that you believe in are so pathetically weak as to be unable to be clearly demonstrated.
Well Swami the occurance of Yogic Flying, where the body actually floats in defiance to gravity, has been well documented in Sceintific Journals for over thirty years. Here is a link:

Puh-lease, NOT the TM nutjobs. Please show me an article in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Hee hee hee! I've seen videotapes of that. It's just guys sitting in the lotus position bouncing up and down on mats. Give me a decent exercise mat and I'll do the same.

Careful pink. Posting factual information with a pedantic explanation could lose you a mushroom and several shroomery friends.

I'm actually inclined to agree that that link does look a little hokey. I personally try and find credible sources and I have no idea who or what that source is, also the graph looks rather sketchy. I'm open to virtually any idea, but I avoid "proof" that doesn't quite look right.

I have asked and have not been answered as to why NO ONE (on the political forum) has objected to my satire on the W.O.D. In fact, I have been applauded! Do you not see any irony in that?

Seems it is NOT the approach as you state, but whether or not it is one's personal belief that is satirized. Beliefs that are OBVIOULSY (to the reader) ridiculous are OK to attack, such as the Pakistanis who were made fun of for burning their children as part of a ceremony. Not ONE moderator or shroomerite objected to the ridicule.

If you were consistent, I would respect your stance much more than sporadically applied criterion.

Hmmm. A bit more than that.

I came over here from the Political Discussion forum because I thought I would see some philosophical discussions. There are a few, and there are some on spirituality, as well.

But oh my goodness, are there ever a TON of posts that address neither spirituality nor philosophy, but rather "pseudoscience". I refer to the threads dealing with ESP, astrology, tarot, telekinesis, extraterrestrials, crop circles, cattle mutilations, etc.

That's fine, I guess... if I were a moderator I'd move those into OTD,since I really fail to see how these topics can even remotely be considered spiritual or philosophical, but I can't deny that by leaving them here the post count of the forum is increased.

From the little time I have spent here, it appears that Swami has as little patience with pseudoscience as I have, since it is almost exclusively THOSE threads which he challenges.

Heh. The Lefties in Political Discussion have already cost me two, and presumably will eventually cost me another. So be it.

Ahh, you are assuming an impartial moderator. The mods have their pet subjects and theories and only question those that clash with their views. It is OK to post total B.S., in fact it is encouraged. The wilder the better, just be nice about it.

Niceness is very spiritual. If Jesus had politely asked the moneylenders to leave the temple, he would have been considered a spiritual teacher.

Puh-lease, NOT the TM nutjobs.

I think the reply was a little insulting, firstoff.
Okay, Swami i searched tthe web for about fifteen minutes, got nuthin'.
What bothers me most about this whole discussion, is that you are coming from a closed-mind-set. I haven't seen it, so I don't believe it is your stand. Which is understandable. But what if it was possible? What if you do bounce or float, even for a moment? Imagine the implications. Would this be the proof that you are asking for?
So I hereby issue a chalenge. Call it a little field trip report for the forum, and check out a TM center. Go in as a skeptic, and ask to see someone bouncing. What do you say?

Ah... this is familiar. Offer a challenge to the skeptic that wastes both their money and their time. I've seen enough videos of indians bouncing up and down in the lotus position to last me for awhile. If a legit "floater" ever turns up, they'll pack arenas in every town... hell, I'd buy a ticket to see that.

Was that a 'back handed' compliment?

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

Hmmm... That's the problem with ambiguity, isn't it?
Maybe I should've hyphenated it... "blatantly-idiotic"

So, uh, no.

Thank you Mr. S.  I have the same thoughts towards your posts.

However,  I have been known to lapse into a mad caper when discussing the revivalist notions of snake eggs and "da muthaship".

Be care what yo put in yo moind!

I stand corrected. Some mods show favoritism towards some subject matter some of the time.

Was involved in the Self Realization Fellowship for several years and lived at their Ashram in the Sierras for an entire summer with Swami Kriyananda. Spent a week at Swami Satchidanada's ashram in Connecticut (has since moved to Virgina, I believe). Visited a TM center in the '70s and asked about the levitation. It was not for public display (naturally!). Knew some peopple that got seriously involved in TM and stated that the organization did teach basic meditation, but beyond that, their claims were a sham.

Saw nothing mystical at the Ashrams that I visited, not even a mention of weird tales. The only unusual thing I knew of was a highly energetic and skinny monk who lived on only one glass of fresh orange juice and one glass of fresh vegetable juice year-round.
