plus his question is about wild birdseed. i doubt moisture even hits the inside\middle of the grain- during a four hour soak! where do you get you shouldnt soak wbs for 24 hours?

24 hours is preferred by most cultivators. But a lot of these people have never tried a 12 , 6 or 4 hour soak time because they believe it has to be 24 hours.

WBS is smaller than rye and corn therefore will take less time to hydrate. Like I said a minimum of 4 hours. And I soak everything I do for only 4-6 hours and have not had bad results. The guy is stating its too wet. Which means less soak time and a simmer should help. I didnt say it had to be 4 hours I simply stated 4-24 hours. If 24 hours is to wet try 16 hours. But simmering for a sec will help enormously when getting rid of outside moisture content.

i use foomanshrooms wbs, (i think its his)  where you just dump wbs into boiling water and then let it sit for an hour.  strain 30 minutes, load into jars.    the grains are always moist on the outside when i load them, but when they come out of the pc

perfecto.

Again, soaking has nothing to do with hydrating. It's for germinating endospores.

do you think the exterior of wbs being a hard shell may make it harder to soak in water content than rye? plus this is mostly an issue of germinating endospores. why cut a 24 hour soak short when you MAY have a larger chance of contams surviving the pressure cook?

You need to hydrate the seed to germinate the endospore. Therefore it has everything to do with soaking

Do you really want to go into the science of seeds?

The seed coat is generally the same thickness in most seeds

im sure you should soak for 24 hours to germinate endospores. thus soaking is more importantly germinating endospores. everyone advises 24 hours! seriously.

Dude, Actually think about your problem for a second
Instead of
a: I don't have a pot big enough for all this WBS at once

Try...

B: Hay! Look, I have a stove with 4 burners, maby I can several smaller pots to simmer all the WBS at once. I mean its not like pots are hard to clean or anything.

or

C: Oh, I only have 1 burner I'll Just have to simmer the second batch of WBS while I strain/dry and load the first batch into the jars.

Use your PC as a pan.. I can fit like almost 30 pounds of WBS in my PC at once..
