Wheres does one begin researching info that is good for guitarists to know such as amps, guitars, pedals and any other useful info?

first thing: go to a music store and try guitars out. thats the only way you're gonna know what you might like. the only advise i have for amps and effects are(aside from trying stuff out): if you like effects/equipment that your favorite bands use, do a search on the bands eqipment.you know, band websites or inside of the CD jackets. every successful band lists what equipment they use.

no problem man. once you get an idea of what sounds(effects) you like, then go to music stores and test out different brands of those effects. they pretty much all sound different from each other.

if you want to have loads of fun, get a midi keyboard to plug your guitar into, going into your computer/software synths.  it's just easier to learn when your having fun as well.

synths are fun to play around with, but personally as a guitar player, nothing can replace separate fx pedals. i've never liked rack mount or floor processors. they're just not versatile enough. playing live music (for me atleast) means i need to have full control of every sound (whether they be independant or in cominations). plus the sounds of synths are just that, synthetic.

oh for sure, it's just nice to have some variety every now and then, especially when tripping.

plus, the right software synths don't sound too synthetic.
