Humidity question
    #938640 - 10/07/02 07:17 AM (14 years, 18 days ago)

On my first attempt with cakes I used an aquarium with perlite on the bottom and a bubbler system. This did very well for the cakes and I came out with a very impressive first try. Will this same set up work just as good for the casing or not?

Humidity is only 1 of many things that need to be in place for casings to work. Casings will make your humidity level go up even more then cakes, which you may have to adjust later.

Pinning - 92% - 98%
Fruiting - 82% - 90%

Did you put the perlite across the whole bottom?

I use 2 hydra-pods for my cakes and a 150gal aquarium for casings ( now going to a wardrobe closet but that is another thread...)

In the aquarium I first used a fish bubbler (airstone) into a mason jar with a dab of H2o2 ( hydrogen peroxide ). then from Radio Shack I got a $20 temp/humidity meter and worked the timing of the bubber out to meet the ever-changing humidity needs of the aquarium.

Alternitively I then switched to a humidifyer that has a built in 'thermostat' that allows me to set desired humidity level.

When switching to casing don't forget about air exchanges! Maybe its just me but casings seem to pool CO2. Could be just me though. I do all of my cakes with my little hydra-pod buddies so I cant realy compare. Oddly enough I have gone from casings to cakes ( everyone is supposed to go the other way... ). Just cause I am lazy and the pods are so easy, fast and forgiving.

anyone have a sporeprint for a bioluminescent mushroom species? ( other than foxfire ) A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men...-Willie Wonka
