Hammocks

I really want to get a hammock.. I don't have a clue what to look for though and it needs to be as cheap as possible.
Ideally I want one that has a built in mosquito net of some kind, is as light as possible and is easily put up.
I don't mind the prospect of making my own either, cause then I guess it'll fit my specifications better.
Links, suggestions, reviews etc. Would all be appreciated .

The only true option.
They are the best, one of a kind, and pretty cheap considering how damn amazing they are.

i fucking love hammocks.
Look to spend about 60 on a nice one.
Nylon is very strong and super light.
I had an ENO travel hammock. No skeeter net but I never had problems with bugs.

Damn, that hammock is pimp.
I sport a multicolored nylon one I got from allgood, bt its weaved so the holes get bigger and smaller and your toes/fingers go through it, and you wake up looking like a waffel.
The knot came udon while I was lounging on it at a festival, snapped right above a pointed old tree stump....
Needless to say my back was bent backwards over it and I was almost in shock from the pain. Couldn't see or breath for damn near 5 minutes, I think I took a total of ten breaths the whole time and they were so hard to take.
I still have back pains from that sheet......bloody stump.....
Now I have a fear of hammocks so bad that anytime I get in a hammock, I'm not overcoming my fear of them, but my fear of death, because I know I will die in one of those things.

I just order my Hennessy Explorer Ultralight Asym this morning - http://farm1.static.flickr.com/88/226800859_1fa5c45574.jpg?v=0 Also ordered the super large (12'x11') sil-nylon tarp instead of the stock one since many seem to think it's barely sufficient. Like the one at the bottom here just a little bigger - http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/Tarps.htm
You want the place for hammock info my man... right here - http://www.hammockforums.net/
Those rope hammocks are a whole different world. These nylon ones are so fucking comfortable..it's like a cocoon. After sleeping in one for a week it was hard for me to sleep in my regular bed at home, let alone in a tent again. People with chronic back pains say hammock sleeping is more comforting than their expensive ass beds at home. But yeah, the way you tie the knot is important. HH tells you to do 4 figure-8 knots - http://www.hennessyhammock.com/setup.html - super strong yet easy to take down.
I tell you though, once you sleep in a hammock tent, you don't want to go back to sleeping on the ground in a tent with all the other animals . Not only do you never have to worry about sleeping on the missed rock/stick (I know it's happened to you before.. wake up with a rock in your back). But what about when it pours rain outside and you wake up with a swamp around your tent, and everything is soggy. Sucks ass. In a hammock, you can sleep through a hurricane.. a fucking river can run under you and you will be unaffected. Did I mention they are comfortable as fuck and you sleep like a baby.

I think I might have to invest in one of those hennesy jobbies, as a christmas present for myself .
The are rather pricey though for what they are... but seeing as I'm rather small I can go with the scout model.
Do you have any good links for learning how to tie knots as well, whilst that's on the agenda?

Actually I think they are a damn good deal for what they are.. considering they are all hand made with high-quality, super lightweight materials. Their design is phenomenal, and they have patents on several of the designs, including the slit-in-the-bottom that you enter through and self seals from your body weight and with velcro. Though I think if you live in the UK, the shipping is where they really kill you $60 shipping to UK when I checked it.. that's almost the cost of a scout. But hey.... order a regular sized hammock now and get a FREE scout as a special xmas offer
If you want to check out others, here are a few of some of the other popular ones: http://www.jacksrbetter.com/ http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/Hammock.htm http://www.mosquitohammock.com/ http://www.thetravelhammock.com/products/hammocks.htm
Although no one does it as good as Hennessy imo. When you order a hammock they send you a little booklet thing with instructions on how to best set it up and whatnot, and the best knots to make. But here's a cool knot site - http://www.animatedknots.com/

Man that's savage.. that means a scout would end up costing me £70 .
I'm going to try and get my mate to chip in, as he's in the market for a good tent, that way one of us can have the full sized one and the other can have the scout. That should make it a bit more reasonably priced.
How much bag space does a properly packed one of those take up?

Man I wish I was shorter so I could get a scout. The cheapest one I would fit in is like $180. I might still have to get one. They look pretty sweet.

Yeah but that kinda defects the purpose because these are supposed to be camping hammocks to replace tents. Not just for around the house use.

they're fairly portable if you have a car, and it's worth it for house use alone.

Can they fit in your backup though? That is the important thing.

the important thing is they are the most comfortable thing i've ever laid in, and it feels like your floating. ideal for car camping/home use. obviously you don't want to be hauling those poles around if your going backpacking.

The hennessy's pack down into 2lbs total weight, in your backpack.. they are comfortable as fuck and you are floating.. and they have bug nets and tarp, you can sleep in them in a hurricane, and no metal poles!

I've had my expedition strung up in my back yard the last few days. It snowed and dropped below freezing this last weekend so I felt a duty to sleep in it. With a decent mummybag I was still snug as a bug at 25 degrees.
Hammocks FTW!
