Will this affect colonization?
    #937805 - 10/06/02 11:15 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I have kept a dozen jars in my incubator for a bout 2-3 weeks and they still did not colonize 100%. There were no air holes drilled in the lids, is that why? Also, - I birthed them, placed 9 in the refrigerator and spawned 3 with 3 in 1. If a little of the vermiculite was left on some of the broken up cakes affect the colonization of the 3 in1? Also, will RH of 78 and 82 degree temps be alright fpr its colonization? Thank you.

Where your lids on tight with no air holes? What are air holes? I assume hole that are left un-taped. If thats the case then yes that may be the source of your slow colonisation. As the jars colonise C02 builds up which slows colonization. Thats why some people turn their jars upside down, because CO2 is heavier than oxygen. And what do you mean by a little vermiculite? If this is verm from the verm layer then it won't do all that much harm (next time scrape it off). If its verm from uncolonised substrate then yes this will cause much harm because it is a near certain vector for contams. Good Luck, hope this helped and made sense, I'm a little out of it right now.
